Despite having a good job, loving wife and delightful family, John Clark (Richard Gere) still feels like something's missing from his life.
Each night on his journey home from work, John sees a young teacher (Jennifer Lopez) staring with a lost expression through the window of a dance studio. Entranced by her gaze, John impulsively signs up for dance lessons, hoping to meet her.
At first, it all seems like a mistake. His two left feet make him look ridiculous on the dancefloor, his teacher ends up being the older Miss Mitzi (Anita Gilette) and when he finally meets the beautiful instructor Paulina, she icily informs him that the studio is for people who are serious about dance, not those looking for a date.
As he progresses with the lessons, John finds himself surprisingly more thrilled by the art of dance than Paulina. He continues to keep his new hobby a secret from his family and friends as he prepares for Chicago's biggest dance competition. But while his skills and friendship with Paulina blossom, so do the suspicions of his wife Beverly (Susan Sarandon) who resorts to hiring a private detective to uncover a possible affair.
With his secret about to be revealed, John will have to do some fancy footwork to keep his dream alive...

This is not one of the best movies starring these actors. The only good part in this movie is the dancing. It is not that great of story line and nothing oustanding happened in this movie. there are many other better dance movies around.
i loved this movie. first off, im a great fan of jennifer lopez' other movies, and richard gere has that elegant charm about him, which always captures me! the movie itself was wonderful, all about the beauty of dance and working your hardest, and really got me interested in the art of dance. definitely a must see for those who love a romantic chick-flick, yet, it isnt too chick-flicky - guy-compatible!! 5 stars :)
After watching this film for two seconds I fell in love with it. I love watching Jennifer Lopez act ( I love all her music as well) with Richard Gere. Susan Sarandon is one of my favourite actresses and she plays the perfect concerned wife. This is a perfect movie for night in. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and most of all you'll feeel inspired.
Please watch this film.
This film is only average - perhaps one for your Nana for her brithday.
I was expecting a lot more from this movie - Jennifer Lopez is much better in the Wedding Planner and especially Main in Manhatten. She's a very weak character in this one.
This movie wasn't very exciting, the best thing about it was the dancing. If you are into dancing movies - Take the Lead is probably the best one around.
John Clark is a man with a wonderful job, a charming wife and a loving family, who nevertheless feels that something is missing as he makes his way every day through the city. Each evening on his commute home, John sees a beautiful woman, staring with a lost expression through the window of a dance studio. Haunted by her gaze, John impulsively jumps off the train one night, and signs up for dance lessons, hoping to meet her. At first, it seems like a mistake. His teacher turns out to be not Paulina, but the older Miss Mitzi, and John proves just as clumsy as his equally clueless classmates on the dance-floor. Even worse, when he does meet Paulina, she icily tells John she hopes he has come to the studio to seriously study dance and not to look for a date. But, as his lessons continue, John falls in love with dancing. Keeping his new obsession from his family and co-workers, John feverishly trains for Chicago's biggest dance competition. His friendship with Paulina blossoms, as his enthusiasm rekindles her own lost passion for dance. But the more time John spends away from home, the more his wife becomes suspicious. With his secret about to be revealed, John will have to do some fancy footwork to keep his dream going and realize what it is he really yearns for.
this was a pretty average movie really, the acting wasnt all that great, but some of the dance scenes were really rather stunning. the storyline wasnt all that exciting, i think that that could have been improved on, but apart from that, this is a pretty generic watch for a late night to pass the time.
this is a meaningful story done well, even for those who don't dance. Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, and Susan Sarandon are decent people, and it is delightful to see a movie with minimal swear words, no violence, and no illicit sex. The musical score is very good as well.
Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez star is this boring film about a man searching for passion in his life, who becomes introduced the beauty of ballroom dance. This is a place where he meets friends of diverse backgrounds who are also searching for something more to experience. Eventually he lets his wife in on his new passion, which becomes a new spark of fullfillment in their lives
A virtually direct remake of a gorgeous mature Japanese movie of the same name. The story was so good even Hollywood couldn't entirely ruin it. A bored workaholic becomes intrigued by the dancer he sees staring out a window and taked dancing lessons. The results are surprising and complicated. Not in the same class as the orginal, but surpisingly effective, it even survives J. Lo.
I didn't think I would, but I enjoyed this film. The hero of the story is a workaholic who finds himself looking at the same woman in the same dance studio on his way home from work every day. He goes to the dance studio and enrolls in classes. Eventually he learns to dance and becomes a freind of the teacher. His wife reacts badly when she discovers his secret lessons but in the end she comes to watch him in a competition. It was interesting but it isn't a movie I would watch over and over again.
