A lost soul has just received the wounds of Christ...and a shocking message that will alter history. Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) and Jonathan Pryce (Ronin) star in this chillingly original thriller. Frankie Page (Arquette) is a bold free-spirit with no cares, no worries and absolutely no faith in God. All of that changes when she suddenly begins to suffer the stigmata - living wounds of the crucified Christ. She soon comes to the attention of the Vatican's top investigator, Father Kiernan (Byrne), and also a corrupt Church official, Cardinal Houseman (Pryce), who discovers that Frankie is actually channelling an earth-shattering message that could destroy the Church. He is convinced that she - must be silenced. Kiernan will now risk his life to save not only the Roman Catholic Church but the destiny of mankind forever! Stunning performances, brilliant visual effects, and a cutting edge musical score by Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins and Elia Cmiral combine to make Stigmata a dynamic and powerful film experience.

A priest from the Vatican is sent in to investigate claims that a small town in Brazil has a church where statues bleed from the eyes. Meanwhile, a young woman in the U.S. begins to show signs of stigmata, the wounds of Christ. The priest from the Vatican links up with her and cares for her as she is increasingly afflicted by the stigmata. Her ranting and raving finally begins to make sense to the priest who starts to question what his religion has stood for for the last 1900 years.
Classic! One of my favourite movies of all time! 5 STARS – No DVD collection is complete without this title amongst it. Powerful performances, superb production value with strong clear direction… a masterpiece. A must see for all movie fans, some might not agree with me but this film with live on for many years after the actors have all but been forgotten!!22
This was a reasonable movie, it had a good plot, got you wondering what was going on, defintly a worhty movie to watch for peiople who arnt closed monded to religion to the point where they judge stuff basedon that alone, very interesting story
This is quite a creepy movie and I didn't enjoy the plot at all. I found it a bit complicated when it was actually such a simplistic idea. The acting is good and the idea isnt, basically. If you've seen this movie and like it, then you won't find it for a much better price, otherwise i'd say you should pass this one up. A bit too weird for me, and many others.
I found this movie quite scary at times, hehe maybe that becuase im a bit of a wimp. but the whole holes in the rist thing jsut scared me. I also think it is the relgious theme, becuase thats stepping out into the un-kown and that scares me
alot of people hate this movie as it bases itself on what appears to be that christianity is real and they are showing another gospel, the gospel was discarded for many valid reasons, so hard out christians don tlike this movie either, any one who wants an interestiing movie to watch which is fictional this is worth watching, very interesting movie
Geez... the church has suppressed gnostic writings? Give me a break - you've been able to buy them for years... or, if you want, you can read these writings online... and a woman possessed by the spirit of a deceased Catholic minister - that don't sound like anything Jesus ever spoke about... don't common sense or the facts get in the way of a "good" story...
this was a really good movie to watch, despite what religion you may identify with. this is about the legend of the stigmata, the rebirth of christ in a new indivudualy, and is really a must see for numerous reason.s the acting is really good, and this is a great watch for everyone everywhere. a good thriller.
i quite like this movie. i'm quite a fan of religious based movies, although i'm not religious myself. i guess it's the myths and mysteries surrounding religion that makes these types of movies so appealing to me. stigmata is full of gripping scenes and the film overall is a must see.
