One of the few old musicals which has stood the test of time, the "King and I" is a sumptuous film with stunning lead performances and an engaging storyline. Although the later version "Anna and the King" is perhaps the better watch for thsoe who prefer their actors to speak rather than sing, if you're looking for a great score and convincing acting or you just like old movies, this is definitely the one for you. A keeper!

i love this movie, have seen it tonnes of times, never gets old, would love to have the aniversary edition, prob has alot of features, the movie is great though, the filming is good, the songs are good and the actors are marvelous, makes me wish i was there with them :)

After the death of her husband, Anna Owens moves from England to Siam with her son Louis to become a teacher for the children of the king of Siam. She finds Siamese customs to be quite different from English ones, which brings her often in conflict with the king. However, after some time they find themselves getting along much better. Five Stars

Face it...nostalgic memories aside...few of the old musicals hold up...they do in the glow of our own egos...but ask the kids after they've seen them...and you know the movies I mean...but there is one glittering exception to the rule...and I wouldn't have bet on this dark horse in a million years...yet Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr are sublime. This musical enthralls youngsters...why, I don't know...it enthralls me...but it can't be the same reason...I've shown them South Pacific, Dancing in the Rain, The Sound Of Music, Oklahoma, Guys And Dolls, Sweet Charity and a few other jewells and they just ho-hummed. But! The King And I kept them on the edge of their seats from beginning to end. I was amazed.
This is a great musical, probably Rogers and Hammersteins greatest! (I hear those heckles) So let the rest of us keep our memories of the great screen musicals intact, but for the kids and the sake of passing them along to the next generation, let's start with The King And I!!!!!!

I'm not really into the old movies but this was really good. Very entertaining and I just love the beautiful gowns she wears. I have to admit I did prefer the other one that was brought out and I think that was Anna and the King with Jodie Foster, but you can't beat the classics. Great movie to watch, maybe on your own and not something that hubbie would be interested in.
