Set against the decadent glamour and escalating danger of revolution-eve Cuba, "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" re-imagines the 1987 film phenomenon from an exciting new perspective. "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" tells a timeless story of a young woman's discovery of love, sensuality and independence - but with a sizzling style and rhythm all its own. Based on producer/choreographer JoAnn Jansen's real life experiences as an American teenager in Cuba, "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" plunges us into world of bright color, vibrant sound and intense emotion. Havana: November, 1958. 18-year-old Katey Miller (Romola Garai) brings an innate curiosity and a smattering of Spanish to her new life in Cuba's lush capital, where her father has taken an executive posting at Ford. Bookish and awkward, Katey is expected to join the smart set of American teenagers who are the Millers' neighbors at the exclusive Oceana Hotel. But Katey finds herself drawn instead to the proud, purposeful Javier (Diego Luna), a waiter who also happens to be brilliant dancer. Determined to learn the slinky, spectacular moves that Javier seems to know in his bones, Katey persuades him to partner with her in a prestigious national dance competition at Havana's glittering nightclub/casino, The Palace. Soon, the straight-A student is deceiving her parents, stealing away both day and night to discover a different part of Cuba with Javier. They meet at the steamy nightclub La Rosa Negra, where only the locals go and where the dancing is hotter than the temperature outside. Some days, they practice on the sand of an out-of-the way beach, aligning their bodies in a sensual harmony that mirrors the growing passion between them. As the night of the contest finally arrives, Katey and Javier are ready to take their place as a couple on the dance floor - unaware that the country club, and the streets of Havana itself, are about to erupt in revolutionary violence.

i greatly enjoyed watching this movie. i watched it with a couple of friends, and they loved it as much as i did. it was fun, romantic and full of adventure and obviously dancing!! must fun to watch, definitely a must see for those dirty dancing series fans, and also for anyone who is interested in dancing, and also cuba!!
I really enjoyed this film. Till finding it on Fishpond I had no idea there even was a Latin homage to the original Dirty Dancing. The young leads do a great job. It was interesting to see Romola Garai before Amazing Grace and Diego Luna before Y tu mamá también. They're both so young! And Patrick Swayze looks like he can still blister the floor - shame they didn't let him. His appearance is a graceful cameo though. The dance scenes are good and the sound track is very good. The only thing that stopped me giving the top rating to this film was that there wasn't more dancing! OK you could write the plot on a cigarette paper and there aren't what you would call plot twists. But you could say the same of Romeo and Juliet or of the original Dirty Dancing. Not for those whose tastes run to gritty realism or arthouse but recommended for those who like a dance films and romance.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I watched this movie. I was sure quite how it would fit with the Dirty Dancing title, but once I turned it on I was enraptured. I couldn't turn away and when it was over and watched it a second time.
I was uncertain at first what I would think because I'd heard it was a Sequel, I'd heard it was a Prequel and I'd heard it was a remake. But when I came out of watching it, I felt it was a movie in it's own right. If anything it was a Parallel. It present the same kind of feelings and emotions as the original Dirty Dancing. Other than that it was it's own movie.
Romola was fabulous and Diego was just so easy to watch. They had great chemistry that made the whole thing believable and realistic. I could watch them dance all day. And the music made me want to dance myself if I knew how.
this movie has a very good storly line and has a really sensational love story going on i enjoyed every minute, second of it. if your the person who loves to get there heart flutter by sweet words then this movie is for you.
i recommend this to all. families and teenagers would enjoy every bit of it. dirty dancing 'havana nights' has great dancing moves in it!! love love love it!! :)
I loooooovveee this movie! I wuld absolutely go as far as to say that it is even better than the first one! the music is amazing, its kind of like salsa music! it just makes you want to move! and the scenary is just amazing as well! you are kind of like in awe everytime you look at it! wot a great film this is! go havana nights!
18-year-old Katey Miller moves to Havana with her parents in November 1958. Her parents expect her to move within their well-to-do circles, but she defies their wishes when she falls in love with Javier, a waiter who also happens to be a fantastic dancer. Secretly meeting in a Havana nightclub, the pair practice their dance steps in preparation for a prestigious national dance competition. But the coming revolution may spell trouble for the pair's plans
Choreographed to utter perfection, the love story between two inspiring young characters from different worlds grows through a masterpiece of dancing blended from steps in their special journey together. Beautiful Katey(Romola Garai) finds all the ingredients: to be special, important, wanted and needed in a guy who completes her in the passion for dancing, and wins in a national dance competition that spectacularly surprises her parents and old friends. Her dedication to help Javier yields a bitter-sweet reward as they both get more than they expected in freedom, intimacy, and royalty in the world of great music and rhythm that make their last dance the dance of a lifetime. This movie is truly delightful to watch over and over. The captivating music, creative dance, and wonderful love story all come together in a symbolic journey through life!
Not perfect by any streatch of the imagination, and would probably be a better movie without the expectations via the Dirty Dancing tie in, but not a bad movie all th same. Set in Cuba this time, on the eve of the Castro revoulution, I think I enjoyed it more for this part of the story than the dancing, however the dancing was still good. Sorth a watch
A great feel good comedy and fabulous installment to the Dirty Dancing franchise. Romola Garai and Diego Luna bring this story to life dancing up a storm just prior to revolution in Cuba. More great music and dancing sequences, even patrick Swazye is back as the dancing teacher.
This a great feel good romantic movie. The only thing I would suggest is not having great expections from the original. That movie can't be beaten or compared. Enjoy this movie for what it is and you will fall in love with it and be happy to rewatch again and again. Telling the story of Katey, who is expected to settle down with a suitable rich kid, instead she finds herself attracted to Javier who is a waiter at the hotel she is staying in. Javier dances his nights away in Havana's nightclubs and draws Katey into the sexy world. She not only finds love but in essence finds herself.
