Director/co-writer Michael Mann's The Last of the Mohicans is a soaring story of transcendent love, an authentically detailed recreation of a turbulent era in U.S. colonial history and an exciting saga of flintlocks-and-tomahawks warfare. Daniel Day-Lewis (as Hawkeye) and Madeleine Stowe (as British transplant Cora) are lovers caught up in the tumult of the French and Indian War in this 1992 Academy Award winner set to a rapturous score by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman. The tale itself is a personal touchstone for Mann (Heat, The Insider): the 1936 screen version was the first movie he recalls seeing as a child. It's hard not to detect a sense of boyhood wonder in Hawkeye's outsized heroics. Here, Mann augments that with a bravura style and sweep that shows why he's one of today's most electrifying moviemakers.

I really enjoy this film. I like the way in which it showed the interaction between native americans and the european settlers. This film really shows how the perceived civilised world puts their morals on indigious peoples. I didn't like the way in which the youngest son died trying to save the white girl at the end, this spoiled it for me.
I like this film. I'm not a huge fan of old American Westerns of Indian movies but I really liked it :) It was very dramatic, romantic, full of action and overall is was really exciting. Some people might find it a bit cheesy but I think it's definitely worth seeing at least once.
a very lame movie. ok so im not normally a fan of action romances and this movie although very well made by Michael Mann just doesn't do anything for me. Its predictable and just reeks of hollywood values. daniel day lewis is very good as he always is and madeline stowe is ok playing the damsel in distress which seemed to be her bread and butter, worth a look i suppose just dont expect citizen kane or anything.
The soundtrack to this movies is simply haunting. It is worth watching the movie for that alone. I quite like this movie, but other people seem to find it too long to get into the action. A good storyline with plenty of drama and action. It makes one want to pick up a Tomahawke and run around the forest after the movie. Daniel-Day Lewis is simply fantastic in this movie.
Awesome soundtrack and quite a sad movie overall. Daniel Day Lewis plays his part very well and Madeleine Stowe who is in my opinion a very under rated actress is also very good. The telling of this tale is basically Native Americans vs Colonialists told from the side of the Natives and showing the brutality of both sides. In any case it’s worth seeing just for the soundtrack.
This is such a classic american film. Although i must admit i was excpecting a load of americans over playing some serious roles, i was pleasently suprised. All the acotrs did a really good job. The stroryline is truly fanatastic and kept me on the edge of my sit through the whole movie.
Very loosely based on the classic American novel of the same name, The Last Of The Mohican seems at first glance to be an unlikely choice for the very contemporary Michael Mann. While it is a long way from Mann's usual turf, it is a strong and extremely lush romantic frontier saga, rather brutal at times, and very easy on the eye.
