Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) arrives at the coastal town of Seabrook, North Carolina, to spend the summer with her family. Still in her teens, she meets local boy Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) at a carnival. Noah instantly senses that he and Allie are meant to be together – despite the fact that she is a wealthy debutante and he is a mill worker.
Over the course of one carefree 1940s summer, the two fall deeply in love. Circumstances – and the sudden outbreak of World War II – soon drive them apart but they're haunted by memories of each other.
Decades later, a man reads from a faded notebook to a woman he regularly visits at a nursing home. Though her memory has faded, the woman is swept back to better times by the passion-fuelled story of Allie and Noah...
Synopsis
Behind every great love is a great story. As teenagers, Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling) begin a whirlwind courtship that soon blossoms into tender intimacy. The young couple is quickly separated by Allies upper class parents who insist that Noah isnt right for her. Several years pass, and, when they meet again, their passion is rekindled, forcing Allie to choose between her soul mate and class order. This beautiful tale has a particularly special meaning to an older gentleman (James Garner) who regularly reads the timeless love story to his aging companion (Gena Rowlands).Based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook is at once heart warming and heartbreaking and will capture you in its sweeping and emotional force.

Over the course of one carefree 1940s summer, the two fall in deeply in love and the sudden outbreak of World War II soon begain which drive them apart but they're haunted by memories of each other.
Decades later, a really old man reads from a faded black notebook to a woman he regularly visits at a nursing home which is Allie Hamilton. Though her memory has is losted, the woman is swept back by the passion-fuelled story of Allie and Noah through love and sadness
"Somewhere," muses Noah Calhoun, while sitting on his porch in the moonight, "there were people making love." The Notebook, a Southern story of love-lost-and-found-again, revolves around a single time-honored romantic dilemma: will beautiful Allisonn Nelson stay with her Mr. Respectability , or will she choose Noah, the romantic rascal she left so many years ago?
This movie is great, definately reccommended by me. It's a real tear jerker though so bring your tissues!! everyone who watches this movie is moved by the romantic story of enduring love. I'd say this is more of a girls film but men have told me they loved it. Beautifully shot, too, and a beautifully told story. It's easy to follow and easy to relate to..
One of the best movies I've seen. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good romance. I've cried every time I've seen it. This is a great movie for a girls night with lots of tissues and chocolate. You will want to watch this movie again and again and show it to all your girlfriends.
I really like this film. I even watched the special feature from the DVD. Everyone should watch it because its really good. It will make you cry and laugh. This is a really good love story. The acting was remarkable and even the plot was good. If you havent watched this film you should really get a copy now. Dont think twice.
this is one of the cutest movies of all time! its asotory of a young wealthy girl who falls inlove with a poor boy from a coal miners family. the whole story is told from the grownup mans perpesctive and its really an adorable movie. Its very true ot the book, which i also reccomend, and i think that that is very important. the acting is amazing and ryan gosling and rachel mccadams won an award for best kiss in 2005!
Ryan Gosling Whroah! He's a total hunk and as the tortured, tormented lover of Allie, he's absolutely brilliant to watch. Here's an actor to watch for the future guys. He's brilliant.
I absolutely wept and wept at the end of the movie...it's such a powerful love story and quite a bit sad and tragic at the same time, but in everyway possible, it's real...very real. It speaks volumes to the human condition. It really highlights our vulnerability and our great capacity to love and that's what makes it so great.
oh wow this on one of my personal favorites of all time i love the love storie involved in this. great movie for the collection. about a rich girl and a not so rich young man who fall in love but family gets in the way. i wount give the story away but its love able and fantastic.
