Definitely the best adaptation of Pride and Prejudice ever. A must for Jane Austen fans!! Colin Firth is amazing as Mr Darcy and Jennifer Ehle is fabulous as Elizabeth Bennet. The other cast members in this BBC production are excellent too!
Love it, love it, love it!!
A must for anyone who loves Austen's Pride and Prejudice!! An excellent and really well done adaptation, you can tell the people involved in making this wanted to do it right (and succeeded admirably!).
Colin Firth absolutely smoulders as Darcy, and Jennifer Ehle is a charming and convincing Lizzie.
I've owned this dvd set for 4 years and have pulled it out to watch many times.
These dvds will definitely give you your money's worth in entertainment!
This would have to be one of my favourite BBC productions. Colin Firth plays a wonderfully "smouldering" Mr Darcy. Well worth the time to sit and watch.
This adaption set the bar for all others that were to follow and while the later version with Keira Knightly etc was true to the novella it missed something that this version has. Its not just the costumes and the settings it is the way the actors portrayed their caracters naturally and with passion.
When I think of Pride and Prejudice, this is the film that comes to mind. Honest, intelligently directed and styled, not to mention wonderfully acted, in my opinion this is the greatest adaptation of Jane Austen's classic book to date. The length in particular makes it easier to see how the romance unfolds; there is excellent attention to detail and it is much more homely than the glossy Hollywood version recently released. A definite must-watch for anyone who enjoys Austen!
While Keira Knightly and cast did an admirable job in the recent release, if you ask me this BBC version is the ONLY adaptation of Pride and Prejudice worth watching. The characterizations are perfect, and the script is as true to the novel as it is possible to be. Moreover, while I appreciated the beauty of the 2006 version this one manages to achieve the all-important atmosphere which really draws you back into the time period. One of my favourite movies ever and definitely one for the collection!
when i was at school, the year above me were watching this portrayal of Pride and prejudice in english class. One day, one of the girls in that class came onto the bus and happily announced that all was right with the world because Mr Darcy had just smiled. I think that sums up this dvd, if you like it you'll love it, and if you're not quite sure what the fuss is about then either ask the girl on my bus, or watch something else.
Although this BBC version of the film is very good, I still prefer the Hollywood version with Keira Knightly's performance as Lizzy. It is quite long, however is more true to the novel. Worthwhile viewing both versions and decide for yourself. It would be a gift that any Jane Austen fan would love!
