Five years ago... Escaped convict Richard B. Riddick escaped from a desert planet with his two companions, religious man Imam and runaway teenage girl Jack. After five years wandering across the outskirts of the galaxy and being hunted by bounty hunters calming the bounty on his head, Riddick arrives on the colonized planet New Mecca, he learns Imam placed the bounty on his head and Jack has been imprisoned on the prison planet "Crematoria" for murder. Riddick learns from Aereon, ambassador of the Elemental race is seeking out Furians, a race of warriors in a bid to balance the universe, as a warrior army known as The Necromongers led by the evil undead Lord Marshal are invading every planet in the galaxy and cleansing all of humanity in their goal for universal conquest. Beliving Riddick is a Furian warrior, Aereon decides to hire Riddick believing he is the one man who can stop The Lord Marshal and the Necromongers. When the Necromongers attacks New Mecca, Riddick is captured by cocky bounty hunter Toombs and his crew and he is transported to Crematoria, where he reunites with Jack now named 'Kyra', where Riddick and Kyra escapes to the planet's sun ravaged surface, where Riddick helped by Necromonger warrior Vakko and his sexy wife Dame Vakko, sets out to defeat the Lord Marshal and save the universe from the Lord Marshal's rule and save the rest of humanity from being converted into Nercomonger warriors.
This is the flim which started it all for Vinn Desiel. One of the most electrical action anti-hero's that you will ever seen on the big screen. He is such as massive actor, his manner fills the screen and pulls you into the story. Although this film does have some limited action, alot is about percived danger. A great prequel to the next film. Got to love it.
A much more grounded story in the Riddick series. The predecessor to the “Chronicles of Riddick”, Pitch Black is far grittier with considerably less posing from Vin Diesel. I prefer it to Chronicles of Riddick, as its more like the original “Alien” film and less like Star Trek.
Riddick’s character is also less friendly and much “harder” in this prequel.
awesome movie, if you saw the chronicals of riddick then you should enjoy this with the exception of people who were in love with the alien thang, this movie is more in the near future type thing with references to earth and no other major alien races
Great movie, great concepts and great story! A well-acted movie with many interesting characters. Great camerawork and special effects. Did have some jumpy sections throughout the movie keeping your heart racing. Also some great action scenes, a great movie to watch for almost any age. Vin Diesel played his part exceptionally well, no other actor could have done it better!
As a zombie fan, I really love these types of plots where people end up in strange places surrounded by wicked monsters! PB is also an excellent tie-in to Chronicles of Riddick (COR). The gang has to run as fast as they can away from darkness. There are so many metaphors in the story! Riddick is this bad guy, but he's also the hero who tries to save the slow-paced folks. The Muslim guy, Imam, relies on the sun's positions for the five times a day prayers, but he is stuck in a land where darkness will rule. Overall, I recommend this film to any sci-fi fans. You won't be disappointed.
Personally I liked “the chronicles of Riddick” better than “Pitch Black” but this seems to be an opinion that varies greatly. “Pitch Black” is certainly on a lower budget and seems more of the thriller genre while “chronicles” is pretty much pure sci-fi/action and could perhaps be accused of being a little gung-ho, but I like that sort of stuff. All in all though “pitch black” is worth a look in my view.
Funny, I liked Pitch Black better than the chronicles of riddick. Pitch black had a lot of different elements, that when added together made a great film. a great scary movie, that has a few bits that you'll jump in and Vin Diesel is great for this part. I don't think it would've been as good with any other actor.
I loved chronicles of riddick, however found pitch black to a bit B grade, some good action scenes and vin diesel of course plays a good tough guy, I had high expectations for this movie when it first came out, but it didn't quite delivery, it is ok to kill 90 minutes but isn't the best. OK but average.
This movie is so AWESOME! I really like the originality of the plot. Ooh, Vin Diesel is absolutly gorgous. The special effects are amazing as well. I really like the fight scene between Riddick and Johns. All in all, I really really love this movie, it goes My Favorites list. 5 out of 5 stars.
