I love this movie!. (you can see the storyline below) but what I really enjoy about this movie is that it is timeless (no pun intended) I love the attention to detail, the costumes, sets and special effects. A favourite scene for many is when the Dr. sits in his machine and views through his window the outside worlds' changes as he speeds through time. A great family film and excellent for early youngones that like scifi or an introduction too. I think I first saw this when I was 10 and was in awe of it. Inregards to comparing this to the new Guy Pearce adaptation. I still prefer this one.
The original film version of THE TIME MACHINE is almost certainly the best adaption of any of H G Wells work and deserves its status as a classic SF film. That`s not to say it`s without flaws , it starts very slowly and I found Filby`s obviously false Scottish accent very irritating ( Notice when a Scotsman appears in a SF film or series his accent is poor ? Scottie from STAR TREK , Jamie Mcrimmon from DOCTOR WHO etc ) , but once the hero goes off into the future it`s entertainment all the way.
Special mention should go to the very intelligent script, it does simplify much of Wells subtext but also adds an anti war theme , you can actually believe the hero`s thought processes came out of the mouth of Wells , and during the nuclear war the Earth show`s its anger at mankind with a series of devastating volcanic eruptions. Is this the first time that " the Gia Theory " has appeared on film ?
Perhaps the greatest compliment I can pay this film is that it reminded me of the early DOCTOR WHO stories . Praise indeed
1960 Sci fi classic directed by George Pal and based on the excellent HG Wells' novella. Rod Taylor is great as our htime travelling hero George, and the beautiful Yvette Mimieux plays Weena of the Eloi. The effects are incredibly dated, but did win an oscar back in the day. Worth a look for sci fi buffs...
This adaptation of H.G. Wells immortal tale is still a bit of a classic. A victorian inventor creates a time machine and travels forward in time finding himself in a world where the human race has split into two groups - the childlike innocents and the sinister cannibalists. The special effects while outdated are still impressive and the adapation is compelling.
