I honestly couldnt believe how well produced this collection was. Not only do we get TWO versions of EVERY film, we also get TWO DISCS for each film too! Thats a lot of extras!
Speaking of extras, there are many features, either on Pre Production, Production or Post Production. The extras give an Alien fan (like myself) everything i've ever wanted to know about this brilliant & timeless saga!
For fans of the Alien Saga this is the definative must have. Containing all four movies, each with a bonus disc and a bonus disc covering the Alien saga, these 9 discs span over 40 hours of material. Even though Alien Resurrection was a minor let down, fans are not going to want to pass up on this epic collection.
When commercial towing vehicle Nostromo, heading back to Earth, intercepts an SoS signal from a nearby planet, the crew are under obligation to investigate. After a bad landing on the planet, some crew members leave the ship to explore the area. At the same time as they discover a hive colony of some unknown creature, the ship's computer deciphers the message to be a warning, not a call for help. When one of the eggs is disturbed, the crew do not know the danger they are in until it is too late.
This is one of the best DVD sets I've ever come across. A HUGE amount of extras give an amazing insight into the making of each film. Interviews with special effects artists, designers (including Giger!), the directors, cast, etc. Tons of behind the scenes footage. Fans of the films couldn't ask for more. Plus, several versions of each film are included, including special versions of Alien3 and Alien Resurrection put together specifically for this DVD set. The only ommission is any interview or commentary from David Fincher, who was apparently too embittered by the making of Alien3 to be involved.
Amazing, highly recommended.
Excellent tilogy, i reckon the alien movies are classic movies (even if some arnt that old) and though the first movies are the ebst of the 4 they are all worth a watch (even resurection), defintiyl a must have box set for the sci fi or action collection
Great to have all the stories in one, this is a series that just keeps giving, I must say number 2 has always been my favourite, however Weaver manages to keep the story alive and the action never dies. as the series goes on there are, more effects and more action. . Classic horror
The first film, by Ridley Scott, is claustrophobic and atmospheric, a terrifying little sci fi/horror; the seconf film, by James Cameron, is a huge action sci fi blockbuster, and the best in the series; the third is just plain boring and weird; and the fourth is kind of grotty and weird... in all of them, Sigourney Weaver is classy... the pack is a must-buy for series fans...
This is one amazing pack, well worth spending the money, the fiorst movies are classics with surprisingly good graphics for their time (and 1 young sigourney weaver) and the 4th being one cool movie even if the story is a little bit out there (similar to jason x style), a must have for fans of the movies
You need to own this collection, probably even is you already own the Alien Legacy pack. The Extended versions of Aliens has already been out before but it is the rerelease of Alien 3 that is best served. Finchers work is much improved and well worth a view, while the extras on the original 2 films are rewatchable, almost daily. There is an excellent commentary on both of those films (note the commentary for Alien is new) and the cast of aliens seem to really enjoy looking back at their feature. Even Joss Whedens murdered script for Alien Resurrection gets a very good treatment and the ninth disc has new content over the 5th disc of the Legacy piece
Like Plan Nine From Outer Space (which is only slightly worse), Wild Wild Planet is an absolute must-see if only for the unintentional laughs and the I-Can't-Believe-This-Got-Released reaction. The "City of the Future" set is so obviously a model that it took me a while to realize they were trying to fool me into thinking it was a city. The star troopers patrol the city in a flying saucer dangling from a string. Instead of "nit-wit", the insult of choice is "helium head." And the scene that actually made me laugh out loud...when the star troopers get to the planet Doofus...er, Delphus, they are given a tour of the facility, which includes a "space conditioning" room. In it, there are these rotating "steam boxes" with men in them, only their heads are visible, and they slowly go around and around like some goofy little carnival ride. I split a gut! And then there's the Proteo Theatre, which features a gay production of Madame Butterfly or something, set to music by the Ventures...oh, yes, friends, this is a hoot. Grab some popcorn and a glass of Saurian Brandy, and drink a toast to the way we thought things were going to be now, back in the 60's.
