Derek Vinyard wasn't born a racist, but he learnt quickly how to become one. Seeking retribution for his father's murder and burning for a way to vent his rage, Derek (Oscar nominee, Edward Norton) turned into the charismatic skinhead leader of a local white power movement. From theft and assault, Derek's violent actions escalated into all-out war, culminating in the brutal murder of two teenagers. In his eyes, race-hate justice has been dealt. Now after three years in prison, everyone awaits Derek's return; his gang; his violent girlfriend - and his greatest fan, his brother, Danny (Edward Furlong). But what they are about to encounter is a man who no longer views hatred as a badge of honour. Ashamed of his past, Derek is in a race to save Danny and his family from the violence he's brought down upon them.

I really enjoyed this movie the first time i watched it and i thought that it was extremely well done. I had been searching for it for a while and i found it on this site and am greatful that i did as it is one of my fave movies. Fishpond is a great site for finding those movies that you can't find in shops. Great job fishpond. I recommend this site and movie to anyone.
I watched this movie years ago and it made a huge impression on me. I wanted my teenage son and his mates to see it and they are now saying that it is one of the most memorable movies they have seen. It had a big impact on them and how they view the behavior of some of their peers. It is graphic and at times disturbing so definitley not suitable for younger viewers but is a must see for older teens. It shows just how disastrous the effects of racism are on people. This one should be shown in high schools to senior students.
I found this movie to be an eye opener of life through the eyes of hatred.
The potrayal of racism in America was done surperbly Edward Norton, brought to life his character and made real what so many people live through every day on both sides of the racial boundary.
With hard hitting scenes this movie was both emotional and thought provoking for myself and many I know who have seen it.
This film is an amazing film that really questions racial intolerance and certainly holds no bars as it looks at the life of an American neo-Nazi. The acting is incredible- this film brought Ed Norton to my attention and made me realize what a brilliant actor he is. Having said that, I would agree that it is very brutal, especially the first scenes so whilst I highly recommend that you watch the film, its not a film for the faint hearted. I would use it as a teaching tool for older teenagers.
Groosum this movie is very sad and scary in parts. The worse bit is when Ed Norton opens the jaw of a african american boy and puts it on the side walk ledge and stomps his head and breaks the boys jaw very bloody could almost think the guy that did Dust Til Dawn did this movie. Great movie but gorie.

woah this shocked me it was a reall good movie and was a reall good potrayal of neo nazi. i loved it!! which was shocking!!
This flashback-laden film delves into the world of a former neo-NAZI and shows how his hatred spawned itself in his younger brother. After committing a brutal assault and Derek is sent to prison. There he sees that all humans have potential and all life should be respected. His life turned around and back out on the streets he tries to cure his brother of the same disease that took him.
Powerful portrayal of Neo-Nazi movement in America. Told in series of flashbacks. Flawless acting by Edward Norton. Does its best to make the point that no one is ever right aand no one is ever wrong. I have a friend who was a Nazi and a racist. But upon walking out of the theater after this movie he hung his head in shame. This is why the film industry began.
Stellar performances given by both Edward's (Norton & Furlong) in this movie, a tell of two brothers facing the same racial hate that throws one of them in jail. Derek (Norton) in prison comes to realise the error of his ways and tries to remedy himself upon his release by leaving behind his neo-natzi past, only to discover that this world has all but swallowed his younger brother played by Furlong.
Great movie all the way through.
American History X is an eye opening drama about racial prejudice and one man who learns the errors of his way, and now must convince his younger brother not to go down the same path he did. With excelent performances by Edward Furlong and Edward Norton, this movie is great at drawing you in and making you think.
