CLINT EASTWOOD takes the directorial reins of his first western (his second film as director following the highly successful PLAY MISTY FOR ME) with HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, returning to the wild old west and to the familiar role of the iconic ‘Man With No Name’ established in his acclaimed collaborations with Sergio Leone. Eastwood portrays a mysterious stranger who emerges out of the desert and rides into the guilt-ridden town of Lago. Terrified by a group of outlaws with a score to settle, the residents of Lago hire the Stranger to protect them…but by the time he makes them paint their town red and rename it “Hell”, it becomes clear that he is no ordinary gunslinger.

I give it 5 stars it is just so great, the story line kept on going even after it finished just running in my head over and over and over again, I love this movie and you will to you should definitely buy this DVD, This movie is an absolute classic no collection is complete without it, Westerns just take me away, it is an action packed classic full of shoot ups and gun fights, it is an amazing movie, I have this in my collection and you do to......
1973 western directed by and starring Clint Eastwood... very Sergio Leone, 'Man with no name' mysterious... dark, eerie, and favouring a supernatural "avenging angel" interpretation... morally dubious too; he rapes Callie Travers for abusing him, which seems to fuel that whole 1970s "all women need is..."... that's dodgy... mean ending though... peopled with unlikeable characters...
All you have to do is to put clint Eastwood on the cover of a movie and you are going to get a lot of sales. Because that guy is an awesome actor. even though he only has one espression, it adds to the cold, hard character that he always does. and does so well. 10 out of 10
Clint Eastwood's directorial debut remains one of the most original and brilliant of westerns. The influence of Sergio Leone is apparent but doesn't overshadow the strange story about a man who rides into a scared little down and preceeds to bring it to its knees with ruthless efficency. At one point the town is painted red and called hell. It has a pure intensity that smoulders away to devastating effect.
