As The Outlaw Josey Wales, two-time Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood is ideally cast as a hard-hitting, fast-drawing loner, recalling his "Man with No Name" from his European Westerns. But unlike that other mythic outlaw, Josey Wales has a name - and a heart.
After avenging his family's brutal murder, Wales is on the lam, pursued by a pack of killers. He travels alone, but a ragtag group of outcasts (including Sondra Locke and Chief Dan George) is drawn to him - and Wales can't leave his motley surrogate family unprotected. Eastwood's skill before and behind the camera connected with audiences for its humour and tenderness as well as for its hair-trigger action.
Synopsis
As The Outlaw Josey Wales, Clint Eastwood is ideal as a wary, fast drawing loner, akin to the Man With No Name from his European Westerns. But unlike that other mythic outlaw, Josey Wales has a name and a heart.
The heart opens up as the action unfolds. After avenging his familys brutal murder, Wales is pursued by a pack of killers. He prefers to travel alone, but ragtag outcasts (including Locke and George) are drawn to him and Wales cant bring himself to leave them unprotected.
Time magazine called it one of 1976s best movies. Over time, The Outlaw Josey Wales has secured a place as one of the top Westerns ever.

I give it 5 stars it is just so great, the story line kept on going even after it finished just running in my head over and over and over again, I love this movie and you will to you should definitely buy this DVD, Westerns just take me away, it is an action packed classic full of shoot ups and gun fights, it is an amazing movie, I have this in my collection and you do to, This movie is an absolute classic no collection is complete without it!
"The Outlaw Josey Wales" was described by Empire magazine as one of the best films of the 1970s - and I agree... Eastwood plays Wales, a man whose family has been slaughtered... he's a brilliant gunfighter, and as he wanders he picks up a ragtag 'family' ... it's just superb; beautiful to look at, funny, touching, and plenty of action - Wales is mythic yet warmly human - an early sign of Eastwood's brilliance...
One of Clint Eastwood's best films as a director The Outlaw Josey Wales is a rich autumnal movie about the devastating impact of war on the title character and many of the characters he comes into contact with. But there is also hope for redemption. The complexities at the heart of Joesy Wales and its strength become more apparent with repeated viewings.
