It is a date that will be remembered for all time. July 20 1969 - the day man first set foot upon the moon. That one shining moment was witnessed by a television audience of six hundred million people across the globe. Remarkably, those immortal images came via a "dish" in outback Australia. It may have been one small step for man, but for a handful of Aussie scientists, it was a giant leap. And one that almost didn't happen... Based on an amazing true story, the creators of the award winning hit comedy "The Castle" tell the funny and moving tale of Australia's part in the Apollo 11 moon mission. Critically acclaimed world-wide (including the Toronto, the London and the Sundance Film Festivals), the biggest local box-office smash in years stars Sam Neill ("Jurassic Park"), Kevin Harrington (TV's "SeaChange"), Tom Long ("Two Hands") and Patrick Warburton (TV's "Seinfeld", "Scream 3").

I LOVE this movie- it's classic Australian. I took it overseas and showed some friends. The Brits loved it, at one point I had to pause the movie as my friend was laughing so much, but the Americans didn't get all of it, and didn't think the "American national anthem" was funny, but I do! OK, so its not 100% accurate, but the makers aren't claiming that it is. The story is also quite touching as characters realise more about themselves and others. I watch this when I am overseas and homesick.
I managed to fall asleep on a friend's sofa and missed the moon landing, so I found this film not only gently entertaining but also oddly rewarding. The build-up to the Apollo 11's successful mission, as delivered by this script, is warmly personalized and made remarkably new. This is accomplished by some fine ensemble acting intercut with stock footage from around the world that is almost seamlessly blended into the narrative. Instead of looking very out of place, as most stock footage does, in this case the era is so nicely established by the costumes, the characters, the settings and especially the soundtrack, scenes shot back in July of 1969 seem very timely and appropriate. It's a credit to director Sitch that there's nothing maudlin about the film; it's low-key and sweetly amusing and yet surprisingly gripping. And it's particularly gratifying to see Sam Neill turn in an effectively low-key performance, after appearances in some pretty ghastly American films.
Recommended.
This is a simple concept of Australia's role in the moon landing which was handled by a small group of technicians in a country town and how it affected the area at that time. The acting is laidback but well done and is quite funny at times.
The thing I didn't like here is there was a portrayal that a small error in their devices could've meant that the moment of the spacecraft landing on the moon may never have been recorded. Although this unfolds in a charming way and it all works out in the end.
yeah this movie for me was kind of like a lame version of the castle. i enjoyed it somewhat but at the same time i was kind of bored. hmm sam neil yeah even though im a new zealander and im meant to be passionate about my countrys actors i gotta say that sam neil is just lame in this movie and any movie for that matter, um yeah an ok movie i guess, not a classic though.

I didn’t really like this movie. I thought that it got a little boring through out the middle and that it lost the point and plot. But this is just my opinion though. Some parts were funny and I enjoyed them but I just wouldn’t say that this was one of my favourite movie for comedy. Three out of five stars.
Infuritating cutesy Australian movie about the true story of role played in the Apollo landing by an Australian satelite dish. The characters are cardboard stereotypes, the story lacks depth, tension and interest. There is a depressing representation of a patented eccentirc Australiana that does nothing for the movie or Australia.
