Gus Van Sant's experimental film was entirely improvised by its two stars. A pair of best friends, (Casey Affleck and Matt Damon), both called Gerry, set out on a desert hike through Death Valley. But what begins as a simple daytime adventure turns into an intense life-and-death journey when, believing themselves to be close to their destination, they decide to get out of their car and continue on foot. The pair quickly lose sight of their car and, in their search for it, find themselves going further and further into the desert - without food or water.
This was a very weird film and I think I completely missed the plot. I like other films by Gus Van Sant and I also like the actors in this but it was boring! Nothing happened. And nothing happening doesn't automatically mean there's some great art going on. I really struggled to enjoy this one, and I don't recommend it.
