I'm not entirely sure why this is classified as a children's movie - perhaps because of the claymation and simple English. Yet, behind this seemingly simple movie is a poignant tale about the struggles of life and how we learn to deal with it and grow from the hardship. Definitely a movie which targets all audiences, not just the little ones.
This is a beautiful little movie, and richly deserves all the praise that was lavished on it from a variety of critics. The Claymation used was somewhat crude and stylised, however that just adds to the film's considerable charm, and it flowed well enough. The voice-work was also very good, and was pivotal in building the atmosphere of the truly touching story of Harvie, a guy who never got a break in his entire life it seems, and yet found some way to enjoy the small joys and victories that life gave him; truly a classic story about an 'Aussie battler', and a movie that will make you laugh, make you cry and make you thankful for what you have.
