Charlotte Bronte's classic romance is revived once again with this Ruby Films production directed by Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre) and adapted by screenwriter Moira Buffini. A critically-acclaimed adaptation which remains true to the book. A dramatic and exciting story of the life of a strong passionate and principled young woman Jane Eyre who survives a wretched childhood to become a governess and falls madly in love with her troubled but compelling employer Mr. Rochester.

I did prefer the book and without a doubt the story is an amazing, must-read classic. The movie however is different, it played interestingly with the linear narrative Bronte established in her novel. The story remains powerful and is enhanced with brilliant cinematic scenes such as the opening scene, one in which you follow, move with and hear Eyre's every pant and step. It remains a powerful story. I love Mia Wasikowska and I never believed they could mould her to fit the Jane Eyre role, she just isn't ugly enough! But they did it, she performed well and the movie works beautifully as an asset to the book. (I still recommend the book. Forever and always.)
