Jarhead is an absolutely horrible movie in my humble opinion. It focuses on the first gulf war and concentrates on the isolation and absolute monotony of being a soldier in a very boring war. What annoys me about this movie is the fact that it stole dialogue from Full Metal Jacket which is what this movie was attempting to be. See Full Metal Jacket instead and dont even bother with this trite.
During the film nothing profound seems to happen, nut the humour within the film kept it light enough to keep it enjoyable. Whether or not you'll like the film comes down to a matter of taste if you like other war films you'll probably enjoy this, if you're more suseptable to full on comedy then this film may leave some of expectations unfilled. A good one to watch but not everyones cup of tea.
I just saw this movie yesterday and I really enjoyed it! It had some funny parts in it when it was just getting too serious, which was good. And it was different from most war movies which I really liked. This movie is great and worth buying it.
opposite to other reviews i thought this movie was total rubbish. i was watching it and waiting for some thing to happen.... nothing did. it was a huge let down as so many people had given it such a high rating. there is no action, romance , comedy or any thing. its so bad
Its really refreshing to see a war movie with absolutely no political implications whatsoever. The focus of this film is the first gulf war, and the boredom of a company of soldiers in the desert waiting for combat. Theres no comment on the horror of war, or the morality; just the experience of waiting. What may sound like a boring concept actually makes for a facinating watch.
Jarhead is a very good movie to watch. And I think the story of the movie is very good. It's a drama movie but it looks like action from looking at the picture at the front of DVD. I think actor Jake Gyllenhaal is perfect person to play as Anthony Swofford in Jarhead movie.
