Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna star in this major-league comedy from the team that brought you Big. Hanks stars as Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up ballplayer whose big league days are over. Hired to coach in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943, while the male pros are at war, Dugan finds himself drawn back into the game by the heart and heroics of his all-girl team. Jon Lovitz adds a scene-stealing cameo as the sarcastic scout who recruits Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis), the baseball dollywith a Babe Ruth swing. Teammates Madonna, Lori Petty and Rosie O'Donnell round out the roster, taking the team to the World Series. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail, on the fields and off, for generations of athletes.

I loved this movie especially madona she does a awsome roll and the lady for Bettle Juice does a good roll too. I loved it because it was the first womans baseball team because the men were a war a fatastic heart warming movie much need for the collection.
This ranks as my favourite sports movie. Tom Hank's portrayal as a chauvanistic team manager is an example of the time but more an example just why there have been so few sports movies about women. A great cast of athletic actresses who wouldn't be out of place on a baseball or softball diamond, to snotty nosed kids and even down to the typically borish american fans in the stands. A great tribute to the girls who stepped up to keep the great American game going during WWII. Their acceptance into the Hall of Fame and the reunion form one of the most emotional and memorable scenes of any movie. If a guy wants to score points with his other half and enjoy a good sports story, this movies the one.
This movie is hilarious. I have never laughed so much ever. It has great acting, affects, dialogue, and especially superb humour – everything you need in a great movie. The movie does have a few scenes that drag out but all in all it’s a must have for all comedy fans and is suitable for basically all ages. It’s a must have, so buy it – You will definitely won’t be disappointed. Highly commen
Little did I know as a child that a professional women's baseball league even existed. That just goes to prove what little recognition these ladies have gotten over the years. This film finally pushes them over the top in terms of getting that recognition.Excellent perception and direction by Penny Marshall here in recreating this long ago time;a time of war when the nation needed the simple pleasures of life more than ever,to help them escape,at least temporarily, the horrors of the goings on overseas. With most of the male professional ball players overseas, our beloved women were called upon to fill the void, and boy did they ever fill it!It makes me wish, in some ways, that I could have been there to see it all.A fine comic performance here by Tom Hanks,as Jimmy Dugan, the somewhat reluctant and ignorant(at least,at first) manager of the Rockford Peaches. Outstanding performances as well from Madonna,Rosie O'Donnell,Geena Davis, and Lori Petty.A finer tribute could not have been made.Well done.
great movie. great premise. great storylines. very compeling viewing. i reccomend to all. definatley go out and get this and watch it or even better, just buy it!!! i totally think that you should wath this. you will def enjoy it. you will nto regret it! great film
HERE IS A STEAL OF A DEAL RIGHT NOW! This movie is an excellent and entertaining feature packed with great actors - being more Tom Hanks and Geena Davis, a great storyline of women's baseball during the war and an actual touching plot. I enjoy watching this moive - I don't know why but its just plain GOOD. And to be this cheap is amazing.
i think this is the only one of madonna's movies that did not really suck, mainly because of the strong supporting cast. tom hanks is as great as ever as the coach who is reluctant to coach an all female base ball team and geena davis is just as golden as ever as its star player. worth a watch
The girls of the All American Girls Baseball League were an impressive bunch. The league, formed to fill the gap left by the canceling of the Major League season while the players were at war, was not the most popular idea at its inception. . . The story is good. Have no doubt, this movie is not a "guy" picture, but it is a great "date movie."
Gina Davis, Tom Hanks, and Lori Petty are all really amazing actors. Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell make great supporting cast members. Hey, it is a movie that Madonna didn't kill! The story is special and rather touching. There is good suspense in the movie. Generally, I am remarkably anti-suspense as I find it rather annoying. It is present in this film at times, but never long enough to become annoying. . .
I have never been a huge baseball fan. But I must admit; I love baseball movies. There is something special about baseball that makes the movies great. Don't get me wrong, bad baseball movies exist, but for someone who is not a fan of the game, I can get behind movies about the game. "A League of Their Own" is no exception to this logic. There was a purity to the game back then.
This is a really enjoyable film... Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell provide great comic relief... Geena Davis is outstanding as the talented Dottie Hinson... Jon Lovitz is hilarious in his short screen time as talent scout Ernie Capadino... Lori Petty's character is just plain annoying, with her petty jealousy and pouting... and tom Hanks is simply superb as the gruff Jimmy Dugan, trying to work with an all - woman baseball team... immensely enjoyable...
This was more than just a comedy. It was a great story of how a women's baseball league was started up out of nothing while their husbands were off at war, and went from being ridiculed and ignored to becoming popular and enjoyed by all. The issues that these women went through makes it remarkable that they were able to come through unscathed and be proud of the people they had become. Madonna actually plays a good role for once also.
