Being Italian made, this is a different style to what Australians might be used to. But I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to anyone.

The film starts in the 1930s when Guido relocates from the country to a large Tuscan town where he falls in love with schoolteacher Dora. She is already engaged to another guy, but Guido stills fights for her. The story continues 5 years later, during wartime, Guido is married to Dora and they have a son called Giosue. Guido is of Jewish origin, and he is sent to a concentration camp with Giosue and Dora follows them, only to be sent to another part of the camp.

What a wonderful premise for a movie. Truly engaging story about a family causght up in the horrow of Nazi Germany. Roberto is simply wonderful, he is an Italian livig treasure. It is available subtitled but please take the time to read it from the original becuase the dubbed version loses the sublties of the language that the subtitler seems to have captured better.

One of the best movies ever. It is very entertaining and funny, and although the ending made me cry (for the sad end regarding the main character) it can also be seen as a happy ending, for the purpose of all the effort played by the main character (Benigni) is achieved. If you have the chance (of understanding it) you should certainly watch it in the original language, as doubling makes it loose its charm.

Don't be put off by the beginning of this film which includes some bizarre and slapstick humour which is necessary to enable the viewer's suspension of disbelief for the rest of the film. Speaking as one who would not normally watch a concentration camp story myself, I would point out to those who are doubtful that the focus on the key characters makes this a gripping, poignant and at times, surprisingly funny, film. Now on my short list of must sees. One I've bought and watch again.

Great movie.
The dad makes up a story for his son and says whoever reaches 1000points will will a tank, but the kid never believes him.
So he makes up with more lies that his son will enjoy instead of getting scared of Germans, but the questions never end. What fantasy would he be telling to his son?

I read this book for a year 12 assignment and was absolutely glued to it. I could not put it down. It is so poignant and real in its examination of a mother who is haunted by her own mothers mistakes and failures. This main character is so fragile and vulnerable. At times you want to hate her and at other times you want to hug her. Picoult is truly one of the finest writers as she manages to evoke so much emotion from the reader. A MUST read.

I think the movie is great. It shows a mans love for his family and that he will go to the end of the world for them.I think they could have emphisized his death more.It was short and sweet. As he is the main character you get attatched to him and the death scene does not justify that. But overall brilliant brilliant movie.
