A thousand years after a great war, a seaside kingdom known as the Valley of the Wind is one of the only areas that remains populated. Led by the courageous Princess Nausicaa, the people of the Valley are engaged in a constant struggle with powerful insects called ohmu, who guard a poisonous jungle that is spreading across the Earth. Nausicaa and her brave companions, together with the people of the Valley, strive to restore the bond between humanity and the earth.

my favourite miyazaki movie - his pro-feminist and environmental stance is highly evident, and despite being written in the early 80`s, the themes are just as, if not more relevant today. would sit comfortably amongst festival movies - id be reluctant to classify this in the 'anime' genre (miyazaki himself distances himself from 'anime', which he sees as 'killing the spirit rather than enriching it') - either way, not just for lovers of good animation, this is a movie that deserves to be recognised as a masterpiece in terms of direction, narrative and theme, and the undoubting faith and celebration of the human spirit (as all of his movies are) - and would put a lot of mainstream directors to shame. miyazaki manages to put human conflict under the microscope in very surreal settings, and still manages to make the humanity shine through, as well as speak to both children and adults. miyazaki shows you why he is considered a great director worldwide - you forget you are watching a movie but become part of the story. beautiful music by jo hisaishi too (this was their first collaboration). in japan, people define themselves by whether they are fans of nausicaa, or miyazaki`s other popular and cuter achievement, totoro. im a nausicaa fan myself - it is my favourite movie of all time, and i have no doubts that it`s reputation will continue to grow as more people become familiar with his work. if you liked this, you may like: laputa, the castle in the sky; princess mononoke. more by miyazaki: porco rosso, my neighbour totoro, kiki`s delivery service, mimi wo sumaseba, ponyo on the cliff, spirited away, howl`s moving castle, 'on your mark' - music video for chage and aska
A true masterpiece of Japanese animation is this one! So beautiful from start to the end, great story, wonderful pictures, lovely soundtrack with the memorable scene of reanimation of Nausicaa This has everything in one package! You've got to have this if you are fan of Anime!
This is a great movie when I watched it I couldn't even tell that it was as old as it is, it is great! It has a special feature where you can change from the movie to the artists original sketches as an animation. It is just an amazing movie and like all anime is great for all ages.
This is an excellent film. Hayao Miyazaki is generally considered the master of anime, and you can see why. Nausicaa is a true epic, beautifully written and animated. It is unusual because the heroine is so strong, yet abhors violence and despite being stuck in the middle of a war, manages to avoid becoming violent or cruel herself. This is one of those films which leaves you breathless by the end.
Another excellent film from the Jibli company. This film is amazing. The storyline is about sometime in the future when there has been a war that has destroyed the planet. People are living in communities separated from each other and are battling against the plants and wildlife. Nausicaa has loved nature and wildlife since she was a child and her purity saves the world in the end.
The ideas are challenging and interesting. Well worth watching.
