What a fantastic movie. Tells the story of two men who compete for greater reknown as a magician. Who will perform the greatest prestige? Twists at every turn, this movie will hold you at the edge of your seat.
After I’ve heard my friends saying very good things about “The Prestige” I’ve decided I should buy & watch that movie.
And after watching it, I surely don’t regret my decision.
The Prestige is set in the 19th century and its about two young magicians whose friendship results in a rivalry after the wife of one of them dies horrifically in a performance.
The whole movie leaves the spectator in suspense until the secret is revealed and the movie provides feeling about romance, jealousy, revenge and actions all in once.
After all, I strongly recommend the movie.
One of the few films that has ever truly made me feel for the characters. A dark and twisted tale of a friendship gone terribly wrong, "The Prestige" tracks the depths to which two young magicians will sink as they desperately attempt to outwit and expose one another on the stage. Fantastic performances from both leading actors make this an incredibly gripping (if slightly predictable) film, while the haunting atmosphere of turn-of-the-century London will ensure it sticks with you long after the credits roll. Although the director's attempts to be clever with the use of flashbacks (and flash-forwards) doesnt entirely work, it is an attempt to follow the format of Christopher Priest's book (which this is based on) and is therefore acceptable if a bit hard to follow at times. Where its strength really lies is in the acting, which vividly expresses the anguish of the two lead characters as their lives are progressively destroyed by their burning hatred of one another and determination for revenge and supremacy. Moreover, if you look closely you'll see that there is more to this film than meets the eye. Like any good magic trick, it has a few cards up its sleeve that will definitely keep you guessing - and maybe raise some profound philosophical questions along the way.
A very clever film that keeps you guessing till the end...even then, you may not be able to work out the ending! You need to use your deductive skills to decide for yourself who is being honest. Based on the life of 2 magicians whose lust for success drive them to extreme behaviours. A sensational film with twists and turns to keep you entertained.
