This volume of prisoner introduces Joan Ferguson "the freak". She is to become Wentworth's new nasty and corrupt officer. Many of the women fear her. Even Bea finds her a challenge. The prisoners will try every way possible to get rid of her but it's only at the end of the entire series that one prisoner finally manages to put the freak in her place.
