This movie was not in the same league as Finding Nemo, but it's still not a bad movie. I would consider Finding Nemo a family film (for everyone) where I would consider The Reef definitely for kids. The story and humour are more suited to younger audiences. If you have a young child who really likes fish then they might like this one :)

It is sad to see a good idea go waste. This movie is nothing but a bad replica of Finding Nemo, which is in my opinion one of the best movies ever made. Everything is borrowed from Finding Nemo, even the nickname, Shark Bate, for the main protagonist, a small teenage fish. It is unmotivated, unoriginal, and the wonderful underworld of the ocean is blandly copied for the purpose of a bland, tired, and unimaginative story.
