This is a glorious television series, sumptuously produced by HBO and the BBC. It follows the events leading up to Julius Caesar’s assassination on the Ides of March, beginning with Caesar’s triumph in Gaul. These momentous events in history are viewed through the eyes of Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo, two common soldiers whose own fortunes are linked to the political machinations of the aristocracy, especially the fortunes of Caesar himself. It’s a wonderful way to view these infamous moments in history with new eyes, and it helps that the sets are so wonderfully put together; in this series, ancient Rome is a living metropolis, full of colour and life. The acting is superb from everyone involved, and it’s hard to single out just one performance as being brilliant; every single one of them were exceptional. A wonderful series that admirably achieves the objective of humanizing the ancient past while staying quite faithful to facts; very highly recommended.

This was the highlight of my Sunday night: one of those shows that you couldn't help watching despite having to be at the office by 8.30am Monday morning.
It's got it all: intrigue, murder and corruption in Ancient Rome, gotta love it.

I have thoughly enjoyed this series of Rome. The producers have put in a lot of reseach on the way Rome should appear at that time in history.
The character portrayal is brilliant and is totally different to the usual way we think of these historical figures.a lot more belivable.
The inter weaving of fictional and factual gives us a n enjoyable experience even if it there is a great deal of violence.
Not for young children!!!!

5 stars for this effort. This series is everything you could hope for and more. Stunning yet at the same time completely perverse. If you love drama then do not let this one pass you by. The characters are extremely likeable. It is a sad day when you realise you are at the end of the series. This is well worth the money. 5 stars for the intricate story line and fantastic realism.

Rome is without a doubt the best show that I have ever seen on television. I’m not going to even be one of those with a problem that it was cancelled after the 2nd season because it was so good it remains etched in my memory and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Really excellent.
