Gregory Peck won an Oscar for his brilliant performance as the Southern lawyer who defends a black man accused of rape in this film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The way in which it captures a time, a place, and above all, a mood, makes this film a masterpiece. The setting is a dusty Southern town during the Depression. A white woman accuses a black man of rape. Though he is obviously innocent, the outcome of his trial is such a foregone conclusion that no lawyer will step forward to defend him - except Peck, the town's most distinguished citizen. His compassionate defense costs him many friendships but earns him the respect and admiration of his two motherless children.

4 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 25/03/2006

I actually really enjoyed this book. It still holds so much relevance to our lives today, about discrimination and race. Many old books can get very boring as the writing style was so different, but not this book. I wouldn't recommend it for young kids, but for teenagers and over, I think you should give this book a try. One can understand why it has became a classic in our society.

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 16/03/2006

Based on the classic American novel of the same name To Kill A Mockingbird is a subtle, richly detailed and beautifully observed coming of age drama. But it is a far from simplistic film with its exploration of complex moral themes and racial issues. It has an almost poetic wisdom and there are some wonderful performances including Gregory
Peck who won an academt award.
