This movie for sure is an all time favourite and well surpasses the remake. I know the new version has all the special effects and johnny depp but I think Gene makes a far better and more captivating willy wonka. There's so much more that is enchanting and magical about this movie that the remake fails to capture. So if you love this story and want to feel captured by the magic of it this film is still the better option.
Ps; I feel guilty for rubbishing a Tim burton but it had to be said....Sorry tim.

The book was great. This hideous movie is an insult to it. It deviates too greatly from the book's plotline and contradicts it. All the characters are annoying, even the ones who are heroes in the book. Willy Wonka and the Oompa Lumpas are terrifying and nightmarish. The songs are horrible and you will want to fast-forward or skip them. Read the book instead.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a delightful children’s fantasy. Gene Wilder gives a fine performance as the Mysterious Mr Wonka, but it is the set pieces that steal the show … not to be forgotten are the orange Oompa-Loompas. This film is far superior to the Johhny Depp fronted remake.

An amazing film still well known today, despite being remade, the original is still seeked out often. With memorable songs throughout, especially by the Oopma Loompas, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a must have for your family DVD collection. With extra material this is made even more enjoyable.

Hmm, if you have seen the remake, this one is much better! Willy Wonka is a classic movie that most children love. The younger they are the more they don't seem to notice how tottaly dark and creepy Willy Wonka really is. Probably because of all the candy. A childs dream, and yes I'll admit I used to sing along with the Oompa Loompa's to. Alot better than the remake though and worth a watch.

this is one of those classic movies that you just have to see! roald dahls classic movie is transformed onto the big screen, and it is a truly magical tale about staying true to your heart. charlie and his grandfather are so cute, and you realy feel sorry for him! i prefer this original to the remake, as it has more character.

Truely a favourite in my household of both young and old and older. Its one I feel you can watch over and over again.. and when you have you can sing along to the great songs. I loved this film so much I dressed like an Oompa Loompa to a party. This special version is fantastic as it has a commentary version also with the cast talking throughout the film reminiencing their experiences through each scene, sadly Augustus Gloop is a quiet one and we dont hear from him much. Some that have read the book maybe alittle disappointed with the film, but those who havent wont know any better. But on whole just enjoy this film as it on its own as it stands alone as being one of the greatest films made. Note: get some chocolate and lollies to have while watching this otherwise youll be searching for later.

Anyone could love this film and I don't see how you couldn't fall in love with Willy Wonka. This is without a doubt one of the most charming movies of all time that is still to this day one of the most enjoyed movies for a family night. Despite it's dark little messages, it still made light of everything and made this movie "satisfying and delicious".
You'll see a world of pure imagination and will absolutely fall for Willy Wonka. Gene Wilder is a comedic genius who will forever be the timeless Willy Wonka. He played it so well and made it look so easy. All the kids were amazing as well, I mean the boy who played Charlie was so adorable and you felt so awful for him. You just wished for his deepest wishes to come true. The sets are also just fantastic and so yummy to look at. On of my favorite scenes was with the "inventing room", all the amazing gizzmo's. I also loved how we took a peek into Wonka's madness when he throws a shoe into a boiling water pot and says "It gives it a little kick". One of my favorite lines of all time is "Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker".
The film is not only great to look at but it has terrific and catchy songs that will be stuck in your head and find yourself humming down the street. This is going to be a timeless classic that I can't wait to show my future children.
