Performer Notes - Personnel: Anjani (piano); John Lissauer (clarinet).
- Although the Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter is well known as a protegee of reclusive poet and singer Leonard Cohen, and her solo debut consists of songs created from lyrics Anjani gathered from decades of Cohen's writings, BLUE ALERT is not a Leonard Cohen album. Anjani's vocals and keyboards are at the center of this album, providing a Brazil-goes-electroclash vibe akin to Bebel Gilberto or New York bossa nova electronica outfit the Mosquitos. Songs like "Blue Alert" and the Brazilian-influenced "Half the Perfect World" are well-constructed, shapely songs that don't sound at all like Cohen's dour basso profundo glower.

Professional Reviews Rolling Stone (p.94) - "The sparse piano arrangements allow Cohen's words to stay in the spotlight."
JazzTimes (p.88) - "She is a very soothing, versatile singer, doubling on keyboards and guitar."
Dirty Linen (p.43) - "The overarching vibe of this disc is late-night cabaret piano jazz, with Anjani's smoky voice at the foreground and Cohen's inimitable touch very much present in the starkly sensual lyrics."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.112) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[A] quiet beauty, filled with songs generally delivered in a hushed, confiding manner..."
