Sarah Brightman is an example of the kind of artist that Duke Ellington would have described as "beyond category." Coming from a theatrical musical background, she combines the traditions of Broadway show-tunes (Andrew Lloyd-Webber's ex, she starred in his 'Phantom of the Opera,' among other things), opera, art song and pop to produce a fresh, unusual amalgam that is showcased to fine effect on TIME TO SAY GOODBYE. Brightman reaches into the Latin tradition here (she sings in Spanish on such tunes as 'Tu Quieres Volver,' offering a glimpse of yet another area of her talent. One of the brightest spots of the album is her dxxuet with pop-classical crossover superstar Andrea Bocelli on the title song.
