5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 09/02/2007

Modern music listeners can still revel in all genres of music. Tchaikovsky is fantastic to listen to as a means of destressing after a hard week. Sometimes there is nothing nicer to do than lie in your pool on a hot lazy summer afternoon listening to classical music, full pelt. Your neighbours will love you. And remind them that it could be worse- you could be listening to Britney Spears.
It is time for the revolution!!

The 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky is my all time favourite peice of classical works. This peice truely is a triumphant epic of musical talent and prestige. The war between Napoleon into Russia is captivated and contained within the imagination of this, the 1812 overture. My favourite part is always the firing of the canons, the imitations of the war itself. A perfect example of perfect musical composition.

I think it is the best version of Tchaikovsky's _1812 Overture_, the all-time classic recording from Mercury!
Mercury has recorded it for twice in 1950s', the firsr recording was made in 1954 ( mono ), the cannon was recorded in Westpoint with the cannon used in Napoleon Times, and the bell was recorded in Yale. The second recording was in 1958 (stereo), the cannon is made in French in 1775, the bell is from a church beside the NY riverside.
This CD is taken from the 1958's version, recorded in 1995, the conductor is Antal Dorati, Performed by Minnesota(Minneapolis) Orchestra. They do perfect job. Probably the recording technology could not better than now, but it still a MUST HAVE recording for all classical music listener. Highly recommend!!!
