I think it is the best version of Tchaikovsky's _1812 Overture_, the all-time classic recording from Mercury!
Mercury has recorded it for twice in 1950s', the firsr recording was made in 1954 ( mono ), the cannon was recorded in Westpoint with the cannon used in Napoleon Times, and the bell was recorded in Yale. The second recording was in 1958 (stereo), the cannon is made in French in 1775, the bell is from a church beside the NY riverside.
This CD is taken from the 1958's version, recorded in 1995, the conductor is Antal Dorati, Performed by Minnesota(Minneapolis) Orchestra. They do perfect job. Probably the recording technology could not better than now, but it still a MUST HAVE recording for all classical music listener. Highly recommend!!!
