Performer Notes
  • Personnel: John Mayer , Keb' Mo', Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Bonnie Raitt, Chad Smith.
  • At the time of TAKING THE LONG WAY's release, the lyrical content of a high-profile album by a big-deal artist hadn't been the topic of such public scrutiny since Eminem was still a hot topic. The Dixie Chicks certainly had to have seen this coming, though, after they withstood a firestorm of insults, threats, and boycotts for criticizing George W. Bush's policies. "Not Ready to Make Nice" and "Lubbock or Leave It" (among others) make it clear, however, that the Chicks have no intention of retreating a single step from their convictions. Similarly, the fact that TAKING THE LONG WAY is as much a pop album as it is contemporary country should not be misinterpreted as an abandonment of the factions that turned against the group during the controversy in question.
  • The soaring pop choruses and dashes of string orchestration that vie for space with acoustic picking and steel guitar swells should rather be seen in the context of a group that's been evolving toward a pop/country amalgam for some time. (Don't forget that one of their biggest hits was a Fleetwood Mac cover.) If anything, the expansive sonic approach and forthright themes simply stand to show that the Chicks have transcended genre pigeonholes. There's still plenty of country in their sound, but with LONG WAY the trio belongs to the larger world at last.

This album came much of a surprise to be considered quite good. I love the songs "Lubbock or leave it" and "I hope". The girls are very talented musicians and after listening to this Cd , I can see now how The Eagles like them and chose to perform with them. Worth a listen if you are into country rock.

" Bitter End" and "Everyone knows" are definitely my favourite songs on this alubm but the Dixie chicks have put together a great album here. The tracks are perfect mood music and there are some songs to cry to on this album . The tracks have a lot to teach the listener about life and the Dixie Chicks have clearly got a promising career ahead!

this cd really shows that the dixie chicks are not going to back down, after america became quite harsh on them, due to some comments said in the heat of the moment. these girls are banned from all country radio stations in america sadly, and their song not ready to make nice is about the fued, and how they do not believe that their words should have been taken with such force. this is literally a must own cd for any fan.

I've never been a Dixie Chicks fan in the past (not that I actively disliked their music, just that I never paid much attention to it), but I borrowed a copy after seeing them perform on TV. Wow! This is such a great CD - I'm going to have to go buy my own copy now. 'Not Ready to Make Nice' is an awesome song and many of the others are well-worth it, too.

These women made one comment a couple of years ago about their President George W. that upset a LOT of people in America. They are still in the bad books in the Music industry. Apparently this cd has gone PLATINUM, and they have NO nominations in any category at the music awards.
I love their stroppy song "I aint ready to make nice" on this cd. It's a defiant shot at those who think they were wrong with voicing their opinions. I don't generally listen to country music, but with the controversy with these country gals I listened to them with admiration and liked their music as much as their courage to say what they believe. This is a cd I own as a personal backlash to the backlash they have received from the big chiefs in music.Buy and defy...

love ths album so much! as a teen, some may find this suprising, but i really love all their voices and beats! this is such a wicked easy listening album that in my opinion appeals to teen and adults alike! this is much like their other album home, and is just as good! i really like the long way around, as it is really heartfelt! a must for any DC fan!!!

Smooth sounds and great lyrics - just what the doctor ordered.
The Dixie Chicks have matured with this album and take on some songs with depth in sound and lyrics. I especially enjoyed I'm not ready to make nice - the lyrics are a bit of a middle finger to George Bush, although they were banned in the States for their opnions on the War effort and left out in the wilderness for a while they have copme back fighting. Go Girls

If you don't like the Dixie Chicks don't buy this album!! However personally their nw ablum "Taking the Long Way" was fantastic, you couldn't find three more attrective female courtry artists, there lyrics are very down to Earth, however keeping within the lines ofa good coutry genre. but don't take my word for it get down to your nearest music store and pick yourself uy a copy you won't regret it.

yeah this was a fairly average cd nothing to special but it did have some quality sounds on the album. yeah there are a few tracks that were good but in general i thought that they were prety ambuzmel on the whole. some real room for improvement and we could see this in some futute albums but at the present i would have to say that i dont really enjoy this music but nice try!
