I had hoped for so much more from this album. Lacking anything particularly interesting in rock sound, Amy Lee's voice carries the album; initially, this is a good thing, but after a few listens her voice really begins to grate. The release tracks are probably the best work on this album, which is never a good sign.

"Bring Me To Life" is a stunning track on its own merit that could stand to lose the male pseudo rap-rock vocal yelling "Wake Me Up". (If you hear the demo version without the male vocal you will understand) I find it amusing that fans of bands like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit are buying this disc just on the basis of this track alone only to realize that the rest of the disc is moody, dark journey into the belly of various beasts. Nevertheless, Amy Lee has a haunting voice that layers beautifully over gothic rock/metal passages much like Tarja, Anneke, Christina, and Tori Amos. "Haunted" is a short, but remarkable track that allows Amy's vocals to breathe chilling words of despair. Just read the cold words to "Imaginary" and you wonder what exact demon tortures the writer's (Ben Moody) soul.

This is a very good CD, in my opinion any way, i htink there new 1 sucked so bad but htis was so good, it was a good way top start out the career but after this they bombed, they got everything they could from 1 album and then they released a shit album, if they carried on with song writting straight aftre this rather than sellign out they wouldve done much better

This is one of the first bands that really got me interested into the genres of hard rock/ alternative/ female-fronted rock and what-have-you.
I think this is a good album for people who are just getting into hard rock. Alot of the songs are anthemic, epic, and melancholic. "Hello" being a standout track that falls under the latter adjective. I also enjoy the orchestral and choral arrangements, which fit in quite nicely with Amy Lee's dramatic vocals.

i'm a big Heavy Metal fan, but when i heard Amy & Co., i was totally thrown out of this world by this Goth-inspired music into the darkest of the dark of the Metal World. But I give credit to Theater of Tragedy for introducing me to their kind (also with Type O Negative), but Evanescence stands out...Amy has a beautiful voice and wow! i just would like to have a chance to go out with her! HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL INDEED!but what i hate is those people who are Love Song Freaks who thinks My Immortal is just another pop ballad!

This is the album that made Evanscenece famous, not many know they had an album before this, but this is better. Bring me to life My Immortal Going Under and Haunted are probably the best, however this album is full to the brim of great songs each could be a potential single they are so great.
Amy's voice is stunning and works well with the dark heavy guitars, even though people bash this band for not truly being "goth", they never claimed to be goth so who cares the music is great!

great album from evanescence. they had a lot of popularity due to their radio hits, but the rest of the album is even better, with some killer guitar and drum solos, and more haunting vocals from amy lee. the songs are at times a bit dark, but they are also very very clever, i love the last two, My Last Breath and Whisper. a great buy!!

This is a brilliant cd with such a variety of heavier songs like Tourniquet to the wistful haunting songs like My Immortal. The vocals on this cd are truely beautiful and the lyrics are filled with so much passion and purpose. The riffs though at times are fairly basic are never boring. Not sure what category this music falls into....in many ways it is very unique. Love all of the songs on this album.

This band is still coming into their potential in my opinion. Their music is verging at brilliance at times only to seem pulled back by their reluctance to step out even further from what is “normal” in the genre. Technically excellent and for sure I’m not saying that this is a bad album by any stretch of the imagination. In fact it’s excellent.
