Performer Notes - Bradford Cox and Deerhoof managed to find time between tours to return to their hometown of Athens, GA to record their fourth album, Halcyon Digest. In line with the album's theme of remembering the past, the band introduced the album the way bands did in the pre-Internet era, by asking fans to post old-school art punk flyers around their towns.
Professional Reviews Billboard (p.60) - "The melodies here are fully formed but don't sacrifice the band's hazy tones. The song 'Revival' shimmies over guitar fuzz and frontman Bradford Cox's elastic vocals..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.90) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The fizzing jaunt of 'Revival' suggests Grateful Dead warped by Eno, a key touchstone throughout..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.57) - Ranked #11 in Mojo's "The 50 Best Albums Of 2010" -- "[I]t was Lockett Pundt's reverb-washed guitar that gave 'Earthquake' and 'Sailing such a beautifully somnambulant quality..."
Paste (magazine) - "Opener 'Earthquake' lowers a looping trio of sounds -- a snare trill, a struck match, a tape noise swipe -- into a deep sonic chasm where legions of guitars and dissolving vocals dominate."
Pitchfork (Website) - "[T]he band's most exhilarating work to date....A seamless album of startling emotional clarity."
Record Collector (magazine) (p.80) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "HALCYON DIGEST's 45 minutes are used so meticulously that practically every second thrills....This is goodtime music with a hell of a lot of thought behind it."
Uncut (magazine) (p.90) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] rather lovely record....A waft of brittle beat-pop and drowsy reverb romanticism."
