Opeth: Mikael Akerfeldt (vocals, guitar, Mellotron); Peter Lindgren (guitar); Per Wiberg (piano, organ, Mellotron, keyboards); Martin Mendez (bass instrument); Martin Lopez (drums, percussion).
Recording information: 03/2005 - 06/2005.
New label, new band member, same brilliant Opeth. The most obvious change from their previous two releases, DELIVERANCE (2002) and DAMNATION (2003), is the permanent addition of previous touring keyboard player Per Wiberg. His organ work, specifically, creates new textures only hinted at on previous releases. While many of Opeth's peers have opted to phase out their death-metal vocals entirely, Mikael Akerfeldt continues to alternate his always-improving clean vocals with his traditional growls. The result is the band's most varied and fully realized album to date.

i really enjoyed Ghost REveries by opeth but it is not their best works. thy have produced some really outstanding albums in the past so, to tell the truth i did feel a little let down at first but the more i listen to it the more i grow to like it. it is still an enjoyable cd, just not my pick of the bunch.
This is Opeth's finest yet! This album combines the raw aggresive power of Deliverance and the chillingly serene sounds of Damnation into one fantastic album. Opeth are the best thing to come out of Scandinavia since the Vikings and far more brutal. From the opening Ghost of Perdition which leaves you spineless yet energised through awesome tracks such as Beneath The Mire and Reverie/Harlequin Forest to the final track, a frenetic paced Isolation Years, this is one must-have in your metal collection (as well as all their other albums of course!)
To be quite honest, I'm not really into what you'd call "Death metal" or what-have-you, but this album has helped broaden my horizons quite a bit!
I like the fact that this album doesn't really stay graounded in one narrow musical direction - It changes from heavy to dreamy to melodic, which is a nice refreshing change. I think that Opeth managed to pair elaborate guitar riffs and droney ambient sounds in the same album, which is not something you hear all the time, especially in death metal.
My wife called this album the 'Ned Flanders of death metal', which I think sums it up quite well. But that said, it's still quite brilliant, with some suprisingly uplifting hooks for an Opeth album. It might not be as groundbreaking as some metal magazines would claim, but the constant shifting between soft prog-rock and chunky death metal riffs works perfectly, as do the ace guitar solos and soaring vocals.
This album by Opeth is agreeably not their very best, but this album when perceived on its own, this album shows Opeths extremely talented lineup.
A fantastic live band, Opeth deliver Ghost Reveries with every grain of integrity and mellifluous beauty.
Unnerving lyricism, this Opeth album is one for the shelves of any black metal fan.
This is not the best Opeth album out there, but it is still good. If you don't own any other Opeth I would recomend a different album, but if you have got it all this one is definately still worth getting. Its still got a good sound just like all of Opeths stuff, but its just not as good as some of their other stuff. Opeth would be the perfect gift for ay metalhead, but maybe not this album
This is probably opeths most boring album to date. it didnt have that "WOW" factor that Opeth has always provided me with in the past. it was very average. their are a few good songs, but most of the songs are very average. compared to opeths previous albums "ghost reveries" is very "b" grade and doesnt have a lot of excitement to offer.
Some not that great sounds on this album, not really my favourite pic of the bunch. Although it did have some quality sounds on it. the music itself wasnt that great and some real improvement could be done to make this ablum sound alot better.
Meh. Average stuff, from a good band. Opeth are underrated though. Everyone seems to hate them , but they arent that bad. Its a pretty good album actually, just frustrating because you know they can do better, and yeah it is a bit boring.
Probably better to check out some other Opeth stuff first before getting this one, but if you are a die hard OPeth fan who has to get all their stuff then buy it, you've heard worse.
