Performer Notes
  • Tool: Danny Carey, Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor, Maynard James Keenan.
  • Recording information: O'Henry Studios, Burbank, California.
  • To its legion of fans, everything the band Tool does is an event, but the elaborate plan behind their sporadic release schedule--roughly five years, on average, between albums--is due primarily to the time and effort the band packs into each successive effort. To title their fourth album 10,000 DAYS, then, isn't as much an exaggeration as it would seem. Tool are America's most consummate mainstream perfectionists, revitalizing progressive rock to the grandeur of its '70s heyday, but updated with technocratic tension and existential dread not known to previous generations. Perhaps it's the development of more musical genres at the turn of the millennium, but it's also Tool's ability to take what is needed from each and leave the florid excesses behind, forming a seething gray core of angst and release across epic-length songs that are as accessible as they are complex. The material on 10,000 DAYS provides typically thought-provoking grist for the band's lyrical handwringing ("Vicarious" tackles reality television as the bane of culture; "Wings for Marie" is a two-part suite on the death of vocalist Maynard James Keenan's mother), and is as musically engaging as ever, finding the band at their most powerful since 1996's AENIMA.

4 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 25/06/2007

This is a really good album for Tool fans particularly. Once again they have evolved their sound from Lateralus to make it a little harder, the guitar more prominent, and the instrumental aspect more prominent. The use of build-ups and absolutely sensational in some parts.

They seem to have followed more of the theme of the last albums where one song leads into the next, making it more like one song in two parts. This is a true musical masterpiece that Tool fans and musicians will most definitely love, but people new to Tool may not appreciate as much. If you are after short catchy songs then you may be a little disappointed with this album.

Personally I don't connect with this album anywhere near as much as I did with Aenima and Lateralus, but its still great stuff.

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 04/06/2007

Over the years, Tool have grown and matured as musicians and this has to be the best they have come out with so far, (though "Lateralus" was also excellent). The music is wide and varied, with Tool's usual innovations and experiments. Never afraid to push the limits and try something, Tool have outdone themselves on this one. "10,000 Days" was worth the wait.

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 03/06/2007

This is the best point in Tool's musical career, from the start of Vicarious to the end of Right In Two (I don't even bother listening to the last track as it's just the usualy static filler I'm used to from their previous albums) everything is amazing. I cant help but notice that some of the riffs here are almost thrashy (like the opening riff on Jambi, sounds like it came straight from Metallica's And Justice For All). The lyrics are the same meaningless nonsense (which somehow adds an allmost satyrical feeling to the music) especially those on Rosetta stoned (perhaps the best song tool have ever written). This is one of the greatest albums ever released (my personal opinion) and Tool have really out done themselves. So what are you doing reading this review? buy the album already!

4 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 13/03/2007

This is the latest lbum by tool, and it is nothing short of the hard rocking, ass kicking music that can only be described as amazing. These guys are the best I saw them a little while ago at The Big Day Out in Auckland, and they were definately the highlight of my day. their videos are weird aswel.

ten thousand days by Tool is nothing short of brilliant. This is a truly a masterpiece, the great thing about Tool is that they dont change their music to fit the music scene or sell more records, they do it how they like and that is how the fans like it. The best songs on this album are The Pot, Vicarious and Jambi. Any fan of tool will not be disappointed. The packaging is great too!

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 29/01/2007

Having been a Tool supporter from their first album 'Opiate', this album, to me, is just another stroke of brilliance in an already impressive career. They just never let you down when it comes to delivering on quality music. Any TRUE Tool fan won't need a review to know what they are getting when they buy any Tool album. BUY IT !!!!

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 13/11/2006

A new style for tool, with a 50/50 mix of heavy guitars and there intence drumming, with a few chill out songs such as 'wings for marie' which actually compliment the c.d layout rather well. an excellent c.d, but for tool fans i do believe 10,000 days was a bit of a let down if you were expecting another c.d like lateralus.

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 04/10/2006

I have waited 4 years for this CD to come out, and I have to say, it was worth the wait. Since buying it, I have flogged it like the proverbial dead horse, hardly listening to anything else in the meantime. This is simply another step in the excellent music that Tool produces.

Songs such as "Vicarious", "Intension" and "Right in Two" are among my favourites, on any CD, not just this one. The range in music is quite amazing, from soft areas right through to the rougher and harder rock sections. The range and variety make the music much more interesting and much less formulaic.

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 20/07/2006

Vicarious is a realy good song, I enjoyed this cd when I got it. Still enjoying it too. Some of the songs are a little weird though, like Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) its just a long bit of music then a bunch of talking really (a doctor and a nurse). The cool art work in the booklet is awesome, with the little glasses things to look at them with. It's a must have I say XD

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 24/06/2006

The latest offering from Tool, as per usual they dazzle us with their presentation, this time with a mind blowing 3D art gallery. Overall this is a better sounding album than the last one. You can tell that the external projects the members have been involved in have played a part in the construction of this one. I have to say it would be nice to see Adam Jones try a different guitar style though.
All in all I loved the theme and sound. This is a great album!!
