Titled after Ronnie Lane's only U.K. Top 20 hit as a solo artist, How Come? is a ten-track, discount-priced compilation. Lane's other British chart single, "The Poacher," leads things off, and the collection also includes other highlights of his solo career, such as his cover of "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?," as well as his Faces song "Ooh La La." Lane remains sadly underestimated, just as his career was foreshortened by illness. This sampler should give the neophyte a good sense of the kind of music he made for Faces and on his own, and help lead to further investigation of a talented musician. ~ William Ruhlmann
