In the liner notes that accompany the soundtrack to LOVE ACTUALLY, the movie's director Richard Curtis writes that the songs here are the "life and soul of the film." This perspective is naturally a welcome change from the often-mercenary and seemingly random perspective that plagues many original soundtrack releases. One listen quickly verifies Curtis' claim, as the disc is filled with unabashedly romantic modern pop.
Anyone who's seen comedies starring Hugh Grant knows his trademark combination of self-effacing, witty humor and slightly sophisticated regular-guy appeal. The music here (including artists such as the Beach Boys and Norah Jones) sounds exactly like what one might imagine a Grant character would be listening to on his home stereo. From the melancholy electronica-framed strains of Dido's gorgeous "Here with Me" to Joni Mitchell's world-wizened, contemporary take on her classic "Both Sides Now," the material on LOVE ACTUALLY perfectly suits the film's warmly humorous take on one of life's most joyous and confusing subjects.
Uncut (1/04, p.112) - 3 stars out of 5 - "Justin Timberlake's 'Like I Love You' is an astounding, epoch-defining pop single..."
If you love this movie, you gotta love this soundtrack too!
This album is beautifully done by various artists and several famous old time pieces. One of the movie's lifelines is the soundtrack, and in this album, each love theme comes with a different song, and while you are listening to it, it no doubt will bring you back to scene of the movie. I own this CD and i highly recommand it!
let us face it: every thing about the movie love actually is so cute you need to brush your teeth after seeing it (being so darn candy sweet) and this original sound track (OST) is no exception. filled with fantastic and memorable songs such as the calling's where ever you go, you will not regret buying this
I bought this cuz I liked the move, and appreciated the songs that went with it. It's a good soundtrack I suppose, with some recognized artists. I particularly enjoy the Christmas version of Love is all Around. Anyone who enjoyed the movie will like this compilation of songs and it is a good addition to any collection.
Another reason I don't buy soundtracks is because I rarely know most of the songs on it. However, this soundtrack has a good mix of recognisable names so that you know what you can expect. The songs are all centred around love, but they each have their own unique styles. Indeed, this is another soundtrack which I would recommend buying.
This is a great soundtrack with something for everyone. 'Modern' songs from Dido. Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson, Norah Jones and The Calling and old classics from the likes of The Beach Boys. Leaning towards pop/romance songs it's a feel-good listen.
everybody agrees that love actually is a very good movie, the soundtrack is much the same with a nice mix of pop, rock and soft tunes to chill out to.kelly clarkson starts the album off with her song the trouble with love is. other great songs are take me as i am by wyclef jean, also Sweetest Goodbye / Sunday Morning by Maroon 5. buy this if you like the movie, you will love it.
