IN TOWN/ENIGMA was originally released as two seperate LPs.
Personnel: P.J. Proby (vocals).
In Town and Enigma, P.J. Proby's third and fourth albums, didn't have as many hits as his previous two albums (although, ironically, Enigma spawned his biggest American hit, "Niki Hoeky"), partially because he was beginning to move toward a more middle-of-the-road sound, similar to Tom Jones. Though the albums are well-produced and well-crafted -- they sound slick, stylish and professional -- they lack the spark of his first two records, even if the number of first-rate songs hasn't decreased. After Enigma, his career did begin to slide, but he was still a fun and popular pop/rock teen idol when he recorded these albums and that is what makes the disc an enjoyable period piece. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
