The Demon label's The Pop Years series moves to 1984 and 1985 for another two-disc volume that compiles some of the U.K.'s Top 40 singles. There's a healthy disregard for the perception of what is and what is not considered cool, which means that the set accurately reflects the mix of what was popular at the time. There's no genre bias, either. Among the most popular singles compiled here are Wham!'s "Freedom," Deniece Williams' "Let's Hear It for the Boy," Matthew Wilder's "Break My Stride," Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings," Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero," and Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" -- all of which peaked within the U.K. Top Five. ~ Andy Kellman
