In the six years between Sarah McLachlan's 1997 outing, SURFACING, and 2003's AFTERGLOW, much happened to the Lilith Fair founder on both personal and global levels. McLachlan's daughter India was born months after the death of her mother, and, of course, there were the ripple effects of the 2001 terrorist attacks. All are addressed throughout these 10 songs, which are ensconced in the ethereal swaddling of subtle piano, acoustic guitars, and light strings. At the heart of this Canadian chanteuse's often melancholy observations is a unwavering resiliency, whether she's finding her way through 9/11's aftereffects in "World on Fire" or seeking solace in the embrace of drummer and significant other Ashwin Sood on "Push." McLachlan also sings of unhealthy relationships, where she finds fault in both herself ("Stupid") and a fictional lover ("Perfect Girl"). Afterglow is a sweet transcendent album by a talented artist whose voice is immensely powerful. Sarah's voice is the key to her talent unlike most artists of today who need to rely on easy lyrics and catchy tunes penned by someone else.
The lyrics of each album graced by that splendid voice will take you somewhere far away.
Afterglow is a superb album by a truly talented woman, if only their were more Sarah McLachlan's in the music world.

Sarah McLachlan's voice is what carries all of her CDs. Not to say that she has no talent otherwise, quite the opposite, but like a handful of artists it is her voice that completely captures you.
Most fans of Sarah like Jewel, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos.... well you see where I'm going female singers that can do just that.
This is a gorgeous album full of heartache and loss, though not in a depressing way.
A great CD by one very talented lass.

If you like listening to Bic,then try Sarah.She did two concerts here last year to promote this cd.This is the first cd she did after becoming a new Mum and also losing her mother.The songs are either written or co-written by her.She plays piano or guitar.Lovely voice & good songs."Push" is a song on the cd she wrote to thank her hubby(who plays in her band) for putting uo with her.Bet you track down other cds by her if you buy this & love it.
