DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a benchmark record. It turned the musical world on its ear with a hitherto unseen combination of sounds, and changed things considerably for Pink Floyd. For this project, Pink Floyd resurrected older and unfinished numbers, some of which came from the multitude of soundtracks the band members had previously worked on. The film ZABRISKIE POINT, a study of American materialism from a foreigner's perspective, provided "Us and Them" (originally titled "The Violence Sequence"). Waters rewrote "Breathe" after its appearance on his and avant-garde composer Ron Geesin's score for THE BODY, a surreal medical documentary.
Floyd and their long-time engineer, Alan Parsons, used a multitude of sound effects--from stereophonically projected footsteps and planes flying overhead ("On the Run") to a roomful of ringing clocks ("Time"). Further adding to the record's mystique, barely audible spoken passages were sprinkled throughout--a result of hours interviewing random Abbey Road occupants about their views on insanity, violence, and death. Floyd must have struck a nerve: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON remained on Billboard's albums chart for an astounding 14 years. It made Pink Floyd a household name, elevating them to the level of the Rolling Stones and The Who in the rock pantheon.

Pink Floyd's eighth album, Dark Side Of The Moon, is one of the best-selling and most well known albums of all time. And it is both those things for a very good reason. It is excellent.
From the slow introduction of Speak To Me, through the drums and guitars that make up the middle of Time, through to the crazy, up-beat ending of Eclipse, each part of this album is put together with care and imagination only possible by the creative minds of the members of Pink Floyd. This album uses some (for the time) new techniques to create a very individual sound.
The main reason I like this album is the great lyrics. The songs are about the big things in life: time, money, life and death. The music and lyrics both possess a power that invoke emotions. I love listening to this album while relaxing, especially while falling asleep.
Oh, and the cover art is cool too. Buying this album won't be regretted.
This album is undeniably the work of four artists doing their most creative work while at the prime of their musical careers. It never ceases to amaze me the quality of the recording in an era when technological advances were just getting underway. Waters' remarkable song writing combine perfectly with Gilmour's rockish vocal and spacey guitar fills, while Wright and Mason provide the perfect backdrop to an otherwise flawless creation. With each member contributing pricelss pieces, this album shall forever remain a classic in the realm of rock..
Classic Pink Floyd album. This is a great album to trip to and kick back to. Best song is Money and Dark Side of the Moon. I love the keyboards thats press away in this album they do a really great job at sounding surreal. Lots of effects in this album. The albums release at the time was shocking and i think this should be the norm for all barber shops.
This is a great album, and a complete journey. I would recommend this album to anyone to at least to listen to. You are bound to have heard a few of these classics, but the whole album is a real treat to get lost in. Pink Floyd were among the first artists to come out and sing against the system, and question society's current values. It was groundbreaking stuff, and today is an excellent one to listen to.
This album needs to be introduced to each and every pair of ears on this planet. Dark Side Of The Moon is one of very few albums I would happily listen to from start to finish. Although you will encounter a plethora of styles, each track blends with the rest seemlessly to produce THE benchmark release of the 20th century.
this is a really wicked album to buy for all pink floyds major fans out there. they will not be disapointed by this new mix of rock and great lyrics, and this really is a must for any hardout rock fans out there. this would be a good fathers day present as well. my fave track is probably On The Run, i really enjoy it.
Yet another definitive album that should be present somewhere in a great music lover's collection.
An album that be this well known is not an achievement that is present in any of today's music.
I still am somewhat sceptical of the claim that this movie when played along with the movie the Wizard of Oz concides. But if you like the originator of this claim has far too much time on your hands then even just buy it to try it out.
The pinicle of progressive rock achievement. A concept album about the everyday lunacy in life. The band was still working as a cohesive unit at this stage. The bands excellent musicality perfectly compliments the lyrics of Roger Waters. Highlights of the album are: the soaring and intruiging 'Great Gig in the Sky' the succint and profound 'Time' and 'Brain Damage'. Buy this album, you won't regret it.
