The Killers (00s): Brandon Flowers (vocals, synthesizer); Dave Kuening (guitar); Mark Stoermer (bass instrument); Ronnie Vannucci (drums).
Recording information: The Hearse, Berkeley, California (2004); Cornerstone Studios, Los Angeles, California (2004).
Although they are Las Vegas, Nevada natives, the Killers have more in common with the retro-New Wave sounds of New York City than with the casino crooners most often associated with Sin City. On HOT FUSS, the shaggy-haired quartet matches 1960s garage attitude and Strokes-like vocal swagger with a danceable, bass guitar-driven sound that pays lavish tribute to '80s pop heroes Duran Duran and Simple Minds. With "On Top," the combo adds the soaring, delay-laden guitars of U2 and the Fixx, while "Somebody Told Me" features a bouncy disco beat that recalls the Pet Shop Boys. Not content to be pegged as a retro-revival act, however, the Killers imbue each song on this fierce debut with a healthy dose of new-millennium rock snarl.

I first saw The Killers years ago on the TV show "The O.C." and loved there music then. It's like synth-rock but quite poppy all the same. I don't like Hot Fuss as much as I like their second album Sam's Town (which is unusual), but it's still a good album full of well written tracks and great, fun music.
I totally loved this album. especially the song i Mr Brightside. Brandon has an unusual singing voice and i love the uniqueness that he brings to the album and the music indistery. I have not come across a band like this before and i was a bit worried that i would not like the music but the more i listened to it the more i loved it and could not put it down.
tons of awesome songs on here. this is the better album out of the ones that have released, as it has more catchy hits on it, and i liked it better when they use lots of synth, as they do in this album. i love all the songs that mention peoples names, such as "Believe Me Natalie" and "Andy your a Star". great buy!
nice and catchy, i'm another one who's ever so slightly ashamed to admit that i like this album. The tracks stay good most of the way down the list, you're not just paying for the first 3 or 4. However the Killers sound pretty much the same the whole way down, so i prefer to have some killers in a mix rather than listening to it the whole way through. The newer Sam's Town album is also good, though i haven't played it as much as i used to play this one.
you know even though i might be punched by my friends for liking this record im going to be honest and say that it is an incredibly good catchy pop album. the three singles are very good but i actually think the really strong songs on this album are andy your a star, jenny was a friend of mine and also all these things that ive done, worth a listen at the very least.
I have played this album a ton, although not quite as much recently. I dragged it out again today though. I really like all of it, no weak tracks that I can think of. Somebody Told Me is just great. Obviously there is a lot of 80s throwbackness here, but it is excellent.
There are three albums that I credit with getting me interested into listening to a lot of music again, and looking for some new stuff, commercial (as well as indy which I had been doing), and this is one of them. It is likely I will long remember it for that. If they never do anything other than this, who cares?
I love this album. It's dancable, it's sing-a-longable and its party-able. The Killers really can't put a foot wrong in my book. The do punk infused Brit Pop well, better then anyone else I can think of anyhow. A good one to add to your car CD stacker, some good driving tunes in there.
the killers found their fame when appearing on the hit tv series the oc and they've proved to be pretty good musicians. this album is quite good when it comes to indie rock, it's not my favourite album of the year but it's worth a listen. if you like what you have heard on the radio then you should check out the album.
This album was a BIG dissappointment. After hearing the 3 singles which were released in Australia, I thought the Killers were one of my new top 5 bands, however the rest of the album is not as catchy, strong or simply as good as the released singles. It may grow on you over time, but after 3 listens beginning to end, i had given up.
This CD is fantastic. It has a wonderful mix of songs. Personal favourites of mine are Jenny was a friend of mine and Indie Rock N Roll.
This Cd is a great one to listen to while driving in the car, or to pump loud when hanging out with friends.
It is even great at parties as most of the tracks are fun to dance and sing to.
I reccomend this to anyone who enjoyed their hit songs "somebody told me" and "mr brightside" as those are just a small taste of the amazing talent the killers have on offer.
