My Chemical Romance: Gerard Way (vocals); Ray Toro, Frank Iero (guitar); Mikey Way (bass guitar); Matt Pelissier (drums).
For its major-label debut, My Chemical Romance amps up the melodies in transforming its unique hardcore approach to more of a pop-punk style. To say this Jersey quintet subscribes to the half-empty-glass outlook on love and relationships is like saying Johnny Rotten is a slightly irritable chap. Buried amid the abundant sing-along choruses and the tasty, two-guitar attack of fretburners Ray Toro and Frank Iero is doom-and-gloom imagery that ranges from the suicidal allusions of the soaring "Cemetery Drive" to the murder and firing squads of the insistent "Give 'Em Hell Kid." Frontman Gerard Way exudes plenty of charisma, and his clear and powerful phrasing works well in a format where vocal precision is often an afterthought. In particular, Way shines within the bizarre confines of the quirky "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison" and the subtler nuances of the dream-pop-flavored "The Ghost of You." Falling somewhere between metal and punk with a distinctive pop sensibility, THREE CHEERS FOR SWEET REVENGE puts My Chemical Romance in line for the kind of success achieved Blink 182.
Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.120) - 3 stars out of 5 - "SWEET REVENGE has the same shout-along choruses, speedy drums and horror themes that fueled Glenn Danzig's old outfit, but it also adds cool metal licks and a sneaky sense of humor..."
Spin (p.63) - Ranked #34 in Spin's "34 Best Albums of the Year" - "[They] take emo to its logical comic-book conclusion on an album with a plot that's like Dante for the Hot Topic crowd."

Another great album from a fantastic band - I cannot get enough of these guys, they're brilliant. check out Helena, The Ghost of You & Thank-you for the Venom.
I'm going to give my opinion strictly based on the music - Not on tags or associations with the fanbase.
I mean...Is it really necessary?
ANYHOW
I purchased this album a couple of years back upon hearing a couple of tracks that I liked the sound of. What can I say...I think it's a good, fun album with some not-so-fun lyrical themes!
I don't really think it's the sort of music that you should take too seirously, just a bit of fun, trashy pop-rock.
I still enjoy listening to this album every now and then, despite the fact that it stands out in comparison to other music I tend to listen to.
5/5 it's hard to explain how good this album is. My Chemical Romance's answer to Metallicas Black album. Angsty lyrics, catchy guitar work, awesome vocals. What more could you want? One thing I hate about this album though, is the "emo" genre the band gets ignorantly tossed into. Yhis is just some watered down, radio friendly metalcore with some catchy songs. Very good, the best song on here is Cemetary Drive or This Is What They Do To Guys Like Me In Prison. Needs much more praise than it already gets, the drumming in this album is also very impressive, I suggest you check it out.
Honestly, I thought that every song on this CD was "worth a million bucks"... (That sounded really lame, but, you know what I mean...) My Chemical Romance has inspired and moved me in so many ways, and they have literally changed my life. I am a HUGE fan of this CD, and their others!!!
The whole emo thing............i like some of the songs but im going to be honest this stuff just doesnt click with me. I like the black parade they have some pretty mean songs, but i thought id review this album because my sister has it and....no other reason. she s absolutely obsessed with tihs kind of music but ill keep it strictly beatty music like d and b and rap for now.
this album is one you wouldnt forget in a hurry. filled with a melodramatic fantasy element sound which infuses songs like 'i know what they do to guys like us in prison' and 'im not okay' and 'helena'. an awsome album from a band that have made this album one that you could not skip a track in. brillient album from my chemical romance!
wow, my chemical romance is really one of those amazing and influential bands that have such a powerful fan base, and for a very good reason, as their music is just incredible. it rises and soars, and you are taken on an amazing adventure that will capture you. the songs on this cd never get old either. fave song would be "thank you for the venom"
the best so far of the my chemical romance cds....the story behind it is incredible...love lose and death...its brilliant...its catchy its dramatic its incredible...theres something for everyone in this cd...from hip teens to old ladys...everyone can like this album if u like rock...youll love this cd
i hate this emo CRAP! iv heard the cd is good if your a fan but i guess im just not... The random screaming and the disgucting voice of the lead singer makes me wanna vomit! ugh! and im also sick of it being compared to panic! at the diso as they are like the best band ever! and are NOT emo! but anyway buy if your a fan.... but then again why would you want to be a fan??
I have to say this would be my absolute favourite my chemical romance cd, even better then the black parade. I love my chemical romance's style, there music is so unique but still easy to like. I can't get enough of this band and can't wait for each cd because they are all brilliant.
