Performer Notes
  • Personnel: James Blunt (vocals, various instruments); M. Tarantino (guitar); Mr. Nau (Wurlitzer piano); S. Krivstov (bass instrument); C. Paxton (drums).
  • James Blunt is a former Royal Air Force soldier who saw active combat during the NATO mission in Kosovo, an experience detailed in his debut album's harrowing closer, "No Bravery." Judging from the rest of BACK TO BEDLAM, he's also in the market to become either a one-man Coldplay or a more commercially acceptable version of Elliott Smith. A collection of midtempo ballads based around Blunt's acoustic guitar and piano and his high, reedy voice, BACK TO BEDLAM is tailor made for a generation of sensitive college girls and their frat-boy boyfriends. Blunt shares Smith's knack for pretty mopery and self-destructive tendencies (several songs, most obviously the opening "High," tacitly romanticize drug use), as well as Coldplay's talent for decorating simple melodies with effective production tricks. Tracks like the UK smash "You're Beautiful" and "Goodbye My Lover" are backhanded anti-love songs that suggest Elvis Costello's lyrical wit, and add a little bite to this otherwise radio-ready set of tunes.

I certainly love James Blunt's musical writtings. An enjoyable easy listen with a wine and feet up on the lounge table (shoes off , ofcourse! :-) My favorite song has to be "So long Jimmy". One has to admire a guy with so much talent and disapline. I am sure that most people would enjoy his easy listening style. Peace and light :-)

James blunt is an odd character. for some one that has been in the army his musical style seems to gentle. i like this album, it soft and refreshing. he is a good male solo artist. the song out of my mind is very catchy along with the song wise men. this album is a great listen. i really do suggest you try it.

James Blunt has charmed women all over the world with his sweet voice and beautiful lyrics. Many of the songs on the Back to Bedlam album have become hits, and the other unreleased tracks are equally as great, if you havent heard this album you definately must! A definitave peice for everybodies music collection.

Proof that you don't have to possess an ounce of talent to be a successful musician these days.
I'd much rather listen to a choir of cats than this album. It'd sound much less whiny and be more in tune.
Go back to Bedlam and put the world out if it's misery. Features one of the most overplayed songs ever and will make your ears bleed to hear this crap.
No man should sound like this.

A wonderful chill out album, and a great cd. James Blunt has an amazing voice, and uses it very well. wonderful song progression keeps intrest while soothing with the calmness of it. I was very impressed with the songs on the album, as i wasnt expecting much after 'your beautiful'
A good CD :)

to be honest, i was really put off james blunt's music when i first heard "beautiful", but later on when other songs of his wre released, i began to see that his music is actually reasonably good, with the esception of "beautiful" ofcourse. get th album if you like laid back alternative rock music.

5 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 24/03/2007

what a great debut album for james blunt- every body in the music industry knew his name after the release of this successful first album. how ever, not many people know that the first track of this album was actually released a year before this album, and was not successful at all. overall a great album
