Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (acoustic, electric, & pedal steel guitars, background vocals); John Paul Jones (organ, bass, background vocals); John Bonham (drums, tympani, background vocals).
Additional personnel: Viram Jasani (tablas).
Recorded at Olympic Studios, London, England in October 1968.
Rising from the ashes of his old band the Yardbirds, session guitarist Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most powerful, influential, and enduring British bands to emerge in the '60s. Despite the presence of such classic thrash-o-ramas as "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown," what set Led Zeppelin apart was the depth and range of their music. Their sound was bathed in the blues, from rootsy covers of Willie Dixon's "You Shook Me" and "I Can't Quit You Baby," to the crunching rhythm changes of "Dazed And Confused."
Few guitarists before or since possessed Page's sense of pacing and dynamics, as exemplified by the traditional acoustic folk elements framing the arena gestures on "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You," and the raga-flavored acoustic mystery of "Black Mountain Side." These elements would continue to evolve on subsequent albums, leading to some of Led Zeppelin's greatest moments.

Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.106) - Ranked #29 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...From the very beginning, Zeppelin had the astonishing fusion of Page's lyrical guitar playing and Robert Plant's paint-peeling love-hound yowl..."
Rolling Stone (9/13/01, p.112) - 5 stars out of 5 - "...No Zep album sounds quite as gratifyingly raw or is as comprehensive in defining the band's intentions..."
Q (10/94, p.141) - 3 Stars - Good - "...the rites of passage, Marquee-style bluesbreaker album, recorded in just 30 hours (no record contract, no cash), it's peak 'Dazed And Confused,' wherein half-inch blues exploded into riffology..."

very cool classic rock album. for those into the acid rock, classic rock 'n roll type music complete with screaming guitars, thumping beats and rough vocals, then i suggest that you listen to led zeppelin and this album of theirs. so many gems on this one, give it a listen.
This album is one of the all time rock greats. It delivers power with the amazing vocal range of Robert Plant and the driving drums of John Bonham, as well as some truly awesome guitar work from Jimmy Page, all backed up by the ever reliable John Paul Jones on Bass and Keyboards. This album would have blown alot of people away when it was first released, and continues to do so today.
'Good Times Bad Times' 'Dazed And Confused' are two awesome songs. the reason why i have this album. if you have this album and 'led zeppelin IV' then your c.d collection is complete. this is my second favourite zepp' c.d after IV but i equally listen to both as they are both sooo good.
On their debut, Led Zeppelin took the blues to another level. While the blues influence would remain throughout their career, it would never be as predominant as it was on this record. "Communication Breakdown" chugs along as the best track on the album, while "Dazed and Confused" is something else entirely. It started here and while plenty of great music was to follow, this album holds something special as the first.
An excellent first album, their unique sound stands out from Good Times Bad Times onwards. The only weak point is the lapse towards a 60s pop musical sound in Your Time is Gonna Come.
The rock and roll, the slower blues licks at times, the orgmasic scream-o-chants of Page, it is all good. Especially Dazed And Confused, the raucous You Shook Me and the faster Communication Breakdown.
There are only nine songs on here. But every one of them is an amazing song. All of their songs on this cd are hits, I especialy love the song Babe I'm gonna leave you" it is just mellow and intense at the same time. These guys are revolutionists and deserve to be honoured, because this music has inspired thousands of people around the world.
wow this is a really great album, it contains HEAPS of classic songs by the band like good times bad times, babe i'm gonna leave you, dazed and confused and communication breakdown. my favourite on here would ahve to be babe i'm gonna leave you. this is a must have album for all led zeppelin fans.
this cd is just pure rock, its anawesome album and shoul be owned by all led zeppelin fans. so many of their great and most popular tracks are on this album, such as good times bad times, babe i'm gonna leave you, dazed and confused and communication breakdown. like i said, this should be owned by all fans of teh band as its definately a classic
This is a great cd by a great band. Led Zeppelin are quite probably the best rock band of all time and this cd shows it. It features songs such as: good times bad times, babe i'm gonna leave you, you shook me, dazed and confused, your time is gonna come, communication breakdown and many more. From the first song to the last its a master piece. Anybody who doesn't have this cd and is even slightly in to rock music then you need to get this cd as soon as possible!!
Where it all started. Their first album and one of their best. A strong Blues influence is evident on every track. This diminished with each subsequent album. The band sounds great. Plant's soulful vocals never sounded better, and his harmonica playing adds to the blues feel. There songwriting had not yet reached its peak, but this is one of the better rock albums of the time.
