Performer Notes
  • Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals); Jimmy Page (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, slide guitar, pedal steel guitar, banjo, mandolin, background vocals); John Paul Jones (keyboards, bass instrument); John Bonham (drums).
  • Additional personnel: Viram Jasani (tabla).
  • LED ZEPPELIN III is the sound of rock's brash enfants terrible beginning to mature. While the take-no-prisoners blues-rock of the first two albums is still prominent in the band's tool box, other implements are beginning to appear. The delicate acoustic whispers that would run through much of ZEPPELIN IV have their folk/blues antecedents here (the lambent "That's the Way," the earthy "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp"), the results of the band's creative encampment in a woodland dwelling. At the same time, the heavier tracks are unprecedented in their ferocious swagger. Robert Plant's bone-chilling battle cry and the band's savage riffing on "The Immigrant Song" do full justice to the song's Viking imagery, and it's easy to believe that the "hammer of the gods" Plant sings about is being swung straight in your direction.

Rolling Stone (11/26/70, p.34) - "...their music is as ephemeral as Marvel Comics, and as vivid as an old Technicolor cartoon....Their albums refine the crude public tools of all dull white blues bands into something awesome..." -Lester Bangs

Q (11/94, p.143) - 5 Stars - "...Zeppelin were spinning around like a carousel...from the crunchy riff anthems ('Immigrant Song') to blues rollercoasters ('Since I've Been Loving You') to tail-shaking boogie ('Out On The Tiles')..."

Zepp c.dz are always going to be winners. this is without a doubt a great c.d. a lot of people judge music buy weather it sounds like a good song or not. with zepp you can just appreciate the song writing and the sync band which gives you shivers up your back when you realise how great this band is and how old they are. with zepp III and IV you can appriciate true heros.

For a change of pace, this is pretty good. A chance of pace that is, except for the opening Immigrant Song. I presume it is not the Teen Titans Roy Harper they are talking about in Hats Off? Either Speedy, or Arsenal. :)

A bit less yelling and screaming on this album, and a little bit more of the slower blues from "Led Zeppelin I". Even acoustic guitar on Bron Y Aur Stomp? A bit odd, but not too bad. Woof!

Overall, plenty of replay value here.

songs such as immigrant song, celebration day and since i've been loving you make this album a great one. all songs on here are great rock tracks, so if you're a fan and don't have this album then you are really missing out. led zeppelin showcase some of their best stuff on this album. led zeppelin III is great.

3 of 5 Stars! Customer review on 26/02/2006

A stay in a small village in Wales causes the masters of blues rock to burst with acoustic creativity. This album marks the point when Led zeppelin slipped free of the confines of their loud, electric past, and discovered boundless fields of musical potential. Without the developements evident on this album, it would not have been possible to produce the mighty fourth album.
But don't fret. Almost as if to prove they hadn't gone soft, this album also includes one of the most thumping rock songs yet recorded: Immigrant song.
