Allison Crowe recorded Secrets, her solo, singer-songwriter, debut album at
her home studio in Nanaimo, B.C., Canada. She engineered and assisted with
production alongside Rainer Willeke (of popular Canadian r'n'b combo, Soul
Station). Allison Crowe performs all vocals (lead and harmonies), plays piano,
guitar, keyboards and added percussive 'thumps' to the collection. Secrets
contains a mix of tunes from Allison's "band days" (some of which are radically
redefined), freshly-penned songs, and a couple of choice picks from other artists:
Counting Crows’ brooding "Raining in Baltimore" ~ the first song Allison performed
when she launched her career as a singer-songwriter; and "Joan of Arc", a shining
exemplar of Leonard Cohen’s poetic brilliance. Guest artists contributing to
ecrets are rootsy west-coast Canadian musicians: Del Crowe (guitar); Jo Lundstrom
(accordion); Eric Reiswig (Uilleann pipes); and Rainer Willeke (tambourine).
Tracks:
1. How Long (Allison Crowe)
2. Raining In Baltimore (Steve Bowman, David Bryson, Adam Duritz, Charlie
Gillingham, Dave Immergluck, Matt Malley)
3. Philosophy (Allison Crowe)
4. Midnight (Allison Crowe)
5. Immersed (Allison Crowe)
6. Secrets (That Aren’t My Own) (Allison Crowe)
7. Montreal (Allison Crowe)
8. Sea of a Million Faces (Allison Crowe)
9. What About You (Allison Crowe)
10. Joan of Arc (Leonard Cohen)
11. Whether I’m Wrong (Allison Crowe)

What is there to say about such a great CD by a great artist like Allison Crowe?
"Secrets" is Allison's first full-length album and I must say it is a fantastic CD to listen to! From the opening notes of "How Long" to the closing notes of "Whether I'm Wrong", there is not a bad song on the CD! A lot of the songs are Allison originals, but there are a few cover songs thrown in, wich are just as good as the original songs! Allison's cover of Counting Crows' "Raining In Baltimore" is a great song to listen to, I've never heard the original band version. The second cover, Leonard Cohen's "Joan Of Arc" is another great song to listen to, but again, I haven't heard the original, so I can't tell you what version I like better.
Of Allison's original songs, my favourites are "How Long", "Midnight", "Secrets (That Aren't My Own)", "Montreal", "Whether I'm Wrong" and many others! Oh yeah, and there's a hidden song on the album, but I don't know the whole name of the song, but I know Allison did a great accapella for the song!
I rate the CD 5 stars out of 5 because the whole CD is great to listen to!
