Performer Notes
  • Portland, Oregon's Blitzen Trapper play upbeat, lazy-day country rock that often sounds as if it's been plucked straight out of Laurel Canyon circa 1975. While WILD MOUNTAIN NATION, the band's third full-length, does contain traces of contemporary indie rock (see "Cool Love Number One," with its affected vocals and herky-jerky guitar licks), the boys in Blitzen Trapper seem content to simply indulge their influences, rather than over-thinking things and ending up a half-baked My Morning Jacket. The classic rock songbook is very much a stone, but as Blitzen Trapper shows here, there's plenty of fresh blood still be drawn.
Professional Reviews
Uncut (p.75) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t's a generally bracing, impressive and melodic journey....Blitzen Trappen are connecting with the source materials of classic Americana."

CMJ (p.40) - "The resulting product sounds something like what might have happened had Jerry Garcia, Alan Lomax and Jack White ever stepped into the studio together....It's fun music that's easy to like."

Q (Magazine) (p.112) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]heir third finds them capably channelling Pavement's skew-whiff country-inflected melody and the lo-fi eclecticism of early Beck."
