This was called Beetle Drive when I was a kid and our family has been playing it (in those days with pen and paper) at Christmas for decades. It's so simple that a 6-year-old can join in, while being fun for grown-ups too. Roll the dice and add body parts to your beetle. The plastic models add a new dimension (literally!) to the game. Beware: it can get pretty rowdy, especially if you have two games set up at once!
We have the version i had when I was little and is still fun for little ones, it is simple enough that under fives can play, take turns to spin the dial and see if you can add to oyur beetle, first one completed wins. I also allow the kids just to make them up for fun.
Swarm is a great new abstract stgetary game. Easy to learn with only one piece like checkers, but different spaces allow you to stack and unstack your pieces for more power. Different boards will be available which will add different spaces and change the strategies. Like chess and checkers, no two games will be the same. Currently there are 2, 3, and 6 player boards available. More info can be found at the links given. There will be a Swarm tournament at the PentaCon convention in Fort Wayne IN on Nov 7th, and 8th.
