We gave my daughter one of these when she started to develop a fear of the dark. It has worked wonders! And although she is no longer scared of the dark, she still loves having it in bed with her 'just in case'. You can turn the music mode off but I found it wasn't long before my daughter worked that one out. I ended up loosely sewing the little jacket up at the back so that she couldn't get to the switch. It's easy to undo and redo when you need to change batteries (in 2 years I've only had to do that twice and for a while there it got heavy use)
